Tanks won't save us when Skynet has Hunter Killers flying about all over the place trying to eradicate us. . . .

Well, if a Challenger (on horseback) such as a Highwayman, came at you on a road in the 1700s, most right-handed folk would have wanted to be riding on the LEFT in order to meet that CHALLENGE (note: thread appropriate term) with a sword, whip, cudgel or whatever defensive item was available. Once upon a time, travellers favoured the left side of the road for this very reason. Bizarre though it may seem. I saw a feature on this novelty factoid once on the gogglebox; but here's a bit more detail.

The Russian Soldiers did not bother with mechanical devises to destroy German Tanks they strapped Bagged charges to Dogs and trained them to run under the Tanks

Jarndice.
The Soviets trained the dogs to run under tanks
Unfortunately for the Soviets they used Soviet tanks to train the dogs! The dogs when released ran away from the unfamiliar German tanks and straight under the more familiar Soviet tanks.
therefore destroying the Soviet tanks before the Germans could. The release of the 'Tank Dogs' was not long used.
