Fully working RC Machine gun nest.
Hi everybody. I planned to post this in my battlefield thread, but due to is somewhat dead I decided to create this new thread so I guess more people will take a look at it. I think it is worth to be seen.
All the sounds are triggered individually at my will with my radio.
For those who don't speak german, the voices, roughly translated are:
1) Trench whistle (The enemy plays it so the troops start invading my battlefield)
2) "For germany!" shouts my MG guy.
3) IAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!! (Lol)
4) Attack!!!
5) We have to keep this line!
6) Oh Shit, a grenade!!!
7) Beware! Artillery!
8 ) How many are left?!
9) For god's sake, there is always more!
10) I ran out of ammo!
11) This was for my colleague...
12) Finally! My Iron cross
Plus two different machine guns. I am playing just one in the video.
Hope you find it interesting.
I must say I built that machine gun nest years ago, when I did not have such a knowledge and skill in RC as I have today, so it has heaps of room for inserting all kind of RC electronics.
If I built this today, it would be definitelly different, with MG pan and tilt. But hey, better than nothing.
And if you want to see pics of the thing, take a look here: https://radindustries.wordpress.com/201 ... est-radio/
EDIT: New video!

Man, that is so cool! The sounds are great and finally a machine gun that has realistic color when firing. I hate seeing a tank bow mg with a red led flashing because it really destroys the illusion. You’re an electronic wizard.

Why hasn't someone shot the German soldier that's standing up out of cover to shut him up. . . .
Cool model Rad

Re: Fully working RC Machine gun nest.
Thanks guys. Giving lights and sounds was a last minute decision. I had the idea yesterday at my spanish siesta and at evening I already had it finished, lol.
But this was just provisional and for the fun of it. Now I am in an absolute rookie level of arduino electronics, but the plan of this MG nest and some more other battlefield items is to have them working themselves, standalone.
I've found while playing in the diorama I am busy enough controlling my vehicles. Those already use many switches and both of my hands, so having a radio controlled machine gun nest is not 100% optimal. I realized it needs to be some sort of stand alone unit... Here is where arduino starts! I ordered a bunch of boards and sensors cheap as hell (less than 2 euros each!) and the plan is to make this thing completelly stand alone. It will have some sensors so once it detects movement, it will start shooting and playing sounds at random order.
Another thing that is in process of improvement is my watchtower. Instead of controlling the spotight myself, it will automatically move, following with the light beam any vehicle that moves around it. And of course with a working MG42 on top. Things are getting serious in my battlefield.
But as I said, those are now raw ideas. I need much more time to learn and to develop it, but it is indeed promishing. I wonder if I will end creating a self learning machine that will kill all the humankind, lol.

Re: Fully working RC Machine gun nest.
I uploaded a new video, but basically it is the same, it looks a tad better now.
I was going to re record it under the sun light but then I had second thoughts about it. I think it looks kinda cool as it is now, in the darkness. And the machine gun looks better.

Nice work Rad, having the different set pieces self automated with movement sensors as you travel around the battlefield would be really cool
it would be more interactive to your vehicle as it passed by and you would not have all the different functions and sounds going off and playing at the same time, look forward to seeing some more setup and playing
Cheers, Lee.

Re: Fully working RC Machine gun nest.
If I remember correctly, there used to be a make of small IR RC tanks, that had gun emplacements which had some kind of proximity sensor operating an IR weapon.
Wasn't Mr wibblywobbly working on something similar

Re: Fully working RC Machine gun nest.
I have seen diverse gadgets along the years. Most of them high priced and quite poor in functions. It is hard to find info of how they work. My idea is more focused in just lights and realistic sounds and to make an interactive diorama. I never ever IR battle.Son of a gun-ner wrote:If I remember correctly, there used to be a make of small IR RC tanks, that had gun emplacements which had some kind of proximity sensor operating an IR weapon.

Maybe at some point in the future, if my idea works, I might implement IR battle for those who want it. But honestly I dont think people will be willing to get those units, if they see the light.
