Differences between wpl b36 and b16?

Hello all,

So up until recently I was attempting to scratch build a Breda 501 (I have attached a side view in order to show this vehicle, as some of you may not be aware about this vehicle, due to its obscurity).

While I was sketching up design ideas I realised that there would be little space to fit a turret rotation system, control board, as well as hidden recoil and elevation servos. Due to the fact that I do not want to spend years scratching my head while staring at CAD software, I decided to change my idea to something easier.

While I was browsing through thingiverse I came across this design: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4171510/files (this is not my design, all credits go to BetaDesign).

This is where my question comes into play; as you can see, the design is based on the wpl b36 instead of the b16 which I currently own. So I am asking if the only difference between the b36 and b16 are different cabins and body attachments, or are there any other differences that would prevent me from using a b16 with this design?

I wonder if you have considered the "JJRC Q60" 6 wheeler, In my humble opinion it is a better quality r/c truck than its WPL Competition and costs not much more.
The chassis and running gear can be purchased without the bodywork

I would consider this if I was planning to buy another truck, but due to the fact that I already have a B16 which I have owned for ages now, I would like to try and use as much of that as possible. Either way thank you for the recommendation!

If you own the B16 and you are thinking of upgrading to metal parts, it is probably cheaper in the long run to buy the B36 KM kit.

It doesn't have a MFU, but you are probably going to have to ditch your current control board if you want cannon sounds.

Save money and have two trucks

If I hadn't already managed to buy two trucks in one year (of which are still to become projects ) I would consider buying another truck, either way thank you for the recommendation as I'm sure to at one point have to use full metal to support what's on top of it (maybe something like a cassipir or buffalo)...

The standard truck chassis are plenty strong enough as your main beams are metal on most trucks if you want to check yours you may find just upgrading the cross members will be all you need if you want full metal chassis

I suggest you follow the new Beetle thread as that is about to cover all the useful WPL type upgrades. I'd suggest it's more a matter of replacing electronics than adding metal if improvements are sought.

Yeah I have been trying to decide which MFU I should get as I will need both support for the drive train, one servo for elevation, one servo for rotation and most likely something to do with the missiles themselves as well (maybe some sort of LED array ) so thank you for the recommendation Jumbo!

Yeah by full metal I didn't exactly mean every part in the chassis, most likely just parts such as the drive train, axles and cross members as replacing these to metal should hopefully allow them to last longer!

I do not have access to my trucks at this time so I cannot check which is which BUT do be aware that the plastic cross members on some of the WPL/JJRC truck chassis is not a simple unscrew and replace with metal job,
Apart from the rear frame some of the others have the spring hangers moulded onto them also while the metal replacement rear frame is a standard size the plastic originals depending on which model truck are different sizes,
Hopefully the differences that I have mentioned do not apply to the B16 and B36 but do check before parting with any money.
