battery removal

hi all, new boy here. i have just bought 2 heng long tiger tanks 6.0. do i need to disconnect and remove batteries from the tank when not in use as it is a bit of a pain.

As to battery's, Lipos should be taken out when the Tank is not being used Nimh and Ni-cads are pretty safe left in situ The Latest Heng Long Li-ons are safe left in place and as to the hard work of opening up a Heng Long Tank have no fear after you have introduced yourself we will show you the easy way to open a Tank.

thanks jarndice. i have now done that bit. how do you tell the difference between a lipo battery and the other.

Lipo have a little plug, 3 wires for the HL ones and NiMh have the larger 2 wire plug. Both power the tank through the larger plug but you MUST charge the Lipo/Lion batteries through the balance plug.

For the Grandkids I'd not put too much detail on the tanks and change batteries through the bottom as designed. If you're going to repaint, detail etc I'd cut out the battery box and fix the top down with magnets. Means you can lift the top off the change batteries without damaging the hard work.

thanks for info. next question is the old adage 'how long is a piece of string', basically how long would the 2000mh battery last from a full charge and how long for the 1800mh li-on

Your piece of string is as long as you use it In other words if you run your tank nonstop the thing wont last 20 minutes (You will know when it is going flat,The headlights start flashing,) And that is why some of us use Li-po battery's, size for size they outlast NiMhs and Ni-Cads,
These two types is what Heng Long used to supply as original equipment but no longer,
You will not have to worry about what a Li-po looks like because your two Heng Long Version 6.0 Tanks come with very efficient Lions,
The Heng Long and Taigen/Torro supplied Charger is quite literally a waste of time, It will take hours charging a tank battery whereas something like a "Turnigy Accucell 6" from "HobbyKing" will charge any rechargeable battery that you have including lead acid (Often used in Model r/c Boats) as well as those I have already named and it will do it safely in less than half the time and it is affordable,
Other aftermarket chargers are available and it pays searching,
About £30 is the kind of price you would expect to pay Assuming you are in the UK
You never got round to telling us where you are.
Quite a few of us use magnets to hold the Tank body to the Hull but Taigen sell a quick release kit that fits Taigen, Torro AND Heng Long Tanks,
The kit was and indeed still may be available from one of the best dealers in our hobby,

If you do order rechargeable battery's from "Component Shop" they will change the connector free of charge if you tell them in advance.
A good dealer in batteries and chargers,
