HL Elevation/Airsoft Link?

Post by PershingLover »

In a stock Heng Long turret, is the elevation linked to the airsoft unit? Meaning, will the stock elevation work without the airsoft unit?

PershingLover,
The last time I looked at the HL Elevation unit, it is a spiral wheel that rotates, raising and lowering the BB Unit by virtue of an 'L' bracket made onto the back of the BB unit. That function can be replicated but it would be simpler to use a servo and arm attached to your new recoil unit.

In short, no. It won't work without at least the body of an airsoft or IR unit in place.

Well, I kind of expected this. It never can be easy.. Does anyone know if the Mako 2020 board supports servo elevation? I seem to have lost my bookmark for it.

Kevin should have that book posted online somewhere, or maybe even a video of making it servo operated. Have you looked around his website or youtube channel? Let me know what you find, I have a mako here that was a gift so I don't know anything about it. I'm not even 100% totally clear on what it does. It's supposed to make you tamiya compatible, right? Does it simulate battle damage? Can your change weight class? I pretty much know nothing so anything you can tell me will be helpful.

I'm in the process of painting the metal suspension and roadwheels for my Pershing, I'm sure there will be a video involved somewhere. I'm going to keep it airsoft but go to the V3 electronics. I've already put it the ball bearing gearboxes and it already had metal tracks and sprockets. I probably won't change the return rollers unless I can find rollers I like, and I may or may not change the idlers. The stock idler is rather robust on those so it may not be absolutely necessary.
