Vanishing posts...

Post by 43rdRecceReg »

8O Can someone explain why I've just lost over thirty posts, and why? These things seem to happen on occasion without warning, or redress. I find it very annoying. :eh: >:<

More to the point, I've no idea what they were. Like many here, I'm sure, I strive to make my contributions relevant, informative and- hopefully- entertaining on occasion.
It messes thread continuity (and consequent Archive continuity) when posts just vanish into the ether, on what appears to be an arbitrary basis or whim.
I would suggest that if a Mod has an issue with a particular thread or individual post, the sensible and considerate approach is to let that contributor know, before airbrushing entries out of existence. :|

Roy There are plenty of my jewels of English as he is writ that I would happily see the back of,
Perhaps the Mods can do a swap :haha: :haha:
Seriously if contributions to a thread are being edited by a 3rd party then it should stop unless there are elements outside the niceties of the Forum that gives cause for omission.
I would like to add something that has not as far as I am aware yet happened and that is an outside the UK Mod interfering with an entry because of the mistaken misinterpretation of the subtle differences between English english (Both the Language & the particular British Culture) and Colonial or Empire or indeed the rest of the Worlds interpretation of English.
And no I am not having a pop at non English Mods just pointing out that we have managed to start wars in the same way in the past :lolno:
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

What happens if an OP is banned? Do all their THREADS disappear as well as posts?

I am wondering if I should be using the recently elected title for the much missed General,
His many and varied texts are still available for all members of the Forum to view and he was dismissed from the Forum.
At least his epaulette's were left intact and his sword unbroken :lolno:

Good afternoon,
It is all right to say his name. Alpha. Of course, he is always the General but before all the posts, he was a guy who loved tanks and loved to talk about building scale versions of them. The Mods here put him and all of his contributions back into the Forum. I know we deal in cold plastic, steel and (zinc?) but the place seems a little more human again. Whatever happened to Roy's posts, the Mods will figure it out and fix it. Enjoy the day, my friends and all the tanks waiting to be built.
regards,
Painless

Removing over 11,000 posts from the General ('Alpha') would have made a swiss cheese, or a series of puzzling non-sequiturs, of the threads he contributed to. ;)
This is what the Archive would have looked like with the 'General''s legacy airbrushed out of existence...
Image

Then again, when Photobucket began charging members for hosting their pics and, they- quite rightly- refused to comply, and thousands of invaluable pics were blanked off, which also had a significant impact on archived material. It all goes to show how careful we must all be with this resource... :(

When dear old Mick had the misfortune of having his considerable collection of comments, and oddities, sent into a parallel universe- numerous threads had members replying to non-existent comments, in consequence. That said, some of those choice pics of him in extraordinary attire, and headgear, should have been x-rated, rather than excised.(albeit accidentally :|
My first thought, was that someone on the admin side had been relocating topics to a more appropriate location, and had somehow lost them..... :/ :eh: :shh:

Fear not young men, nothing important was lost.

The for sale, wanted and swap sections have been trimmed, it was something I started doing ages ago with higher up sanction (I don't think anyone else could be bothered to do such a mundane task ;) ) when I was bored, and had another purge this morning.
At the moment, the sections now only go back two years, whereas before, they went back to the beginning.

And I can only apologise for any concern or stress I may have caused.

Ahhh...so you had the Urge to Purge, then, Mick. :lolno: I guess, this then must be the Forum equivalent of colon-cleansing- a smooth transit into the great ether lav
of unwanted old stuff.
At least, that makes some sort of sense. :)

Well, I was sitting on the loo when I did it. . . .

And no dogs died or were harmed in the process

Edit: wherever I was when I did it, you now have "that" picture :D @)
