Would have been great to see what damage it did to the interior, but being abandoned it was probably already burnt out.
Ooops...

I'd only just been studying pics of the Panther 2 project, which bears a strong resemblance to the King Tiger- including that distinctive bell-shaped mantlet. Also, the late Panther G has a similar front glacis arrangement to the King Tiger, at first sight- but an entirely different mantlet. If I'd looked with greater care (instead of going to the back of the Tank Recognition Class...

), I'd have clocked it right away. Silly moi.
Here's the 'Panther 2' (model prototype) I'd been admiring, for comparison. It would have made an excellent tank!

Had the war continued into 1946, the Panther would have encountered the Centurion (Prototypes were shipped to Germany a month after the war ended.) with the 17-Pounder. That would have been a fair old ding dong. Later versions of Centurion, with the 20-Pounder would probably have seen the Panther 2 off with ease.

This pic was taken by 'Darkone' (...the required attribution).
By the way, it looks to me as if the Faust had punched its way right through the glacis. I've read It was capable of penetrating 200mm of armour.
