RCCommand Battle System Version 2.0 Installation Progress

Post by Gigantohawk »

Hi guys,
I got my New "bare" Battle boards from RCCommand today and after a call to Pete(971 Wright). We decided that removing an I.C. chip from a blown board and popping it into one of the new boards might be a good idea in any case.
The I.c. was duly removed and installed in one of the new boards and guess what !!!!. The Stug fired up. All tank systems work and even using a camera to check out the I.R. emitter showed function here.
The Stug is in bits, the electronics are all over the place and insulated with bubble wrap. So I suppose I need to nail it all back together and see how it goes.
Further to my chat with Pete I have to say at this stage that we're not sure that the sound card is working. But as they say it's "early days" and I'm sure we'll make it work.

A quick note to Bill @ RCCommand......It may seem that I won't need the extra I.C. chips you sent me today...Like I said in the emails I sent you....I'm always ready to send back to you product that needs fixing...I just always wanted something that worked.
No offense intended and no hard feelings.

All the best Gentlemen,

Nick.

Well the Good Luck was shortlived. I thought I would run the Stug for a minute. It ran erratically, not stopping when it should, only one track working then the other. No sound at all other than H/L sound....
Then the Pall of smoke and one melted RX-18 board, see pic.

I've hit the wall Gentlemen, I've lost the will to live on this long and frustrating episode. The broken Stug III and a box full of non functional RCCommand Battle gear are going in the garage. They'll be put in a corner and forgotten about.

I'm now going to spend my little Hobby time concentrating on my Brilliant and always reliable Sherman.

Sorry to let you down Guy's. I can't tell you how much I wanted this to work.

eww, thats crispy looking :o Wish I could help, but I've not had an RX-18 in the fleet yet.

I've never fried a HL board just by hooking up a DBC or DBCRC2HL (and don't any of you start on that issue, alright!? >:( ) so I can only suggest that its a track tension or gearbox problem that caused the board to burn up ???

Hopefully somebody more familiar with the RX-18 can say what went pop in the pic, and we can narrow down the problem for you?

Would that blow a FET? I would have thought that it would have just run in the wrong direction?

the only way to get the plugs in wrong is to force them in but without seeing first hand i cant really comment on it  ;)

dave (forgebear) sent me 4 duff ones to look at and i got 3 going so nick is welcome to one if hes still got the will to live after yet another set back >:( >:(

all I can suggest is that Nick adds a fan and some ventilation holes in the case to try and keep the fets cool

Rob, you da man! ;D

Nick,
If I was closer I'd come up and take a look, but I don't get up your way these days :(
I'd suggest meeting up with Pete and see what he makes of it ???
