tiger 1 early production build

So as we all know the heng long feifal air cleaners are completely wrong so I decided to have ago my self, basing them on the originals.
First job was to chop the tops off the old ones and sand them flat


Next I machined some derlin rod on the lathe and machined the folds/grooves in the tops

I then drilled through these and placed some still rod I had bored out for the connecting pipe between the filter housings, then made some pipe flanges out of plasticard and some small bold heads.
Then filled the bottom housing with scrap plastic and milliput over the top and sanded flat to mount the upper


I also drilled a hole in the back and mounted a small brass Bush and wleds for the drain plug.

After making more flanges for the connecting pipes glued it all together and painted


Then machined some brass caps for the drain plugs and painted them


And this is where we are currently at

Just need to attach some chain to retain the drain plugs, I think they have turned out quite well if I do say so

That's a long build! Quick question, how did you remove the hatches? And were they reusable?

I know other stuff distracted me Quick answer, with a dremmel and no but seriously if you were really careful you could probably reuse they but aftermarket hatches are cheap and easy to fit, if you want close ups let me know

The best way to take out the moulded hatches on a Tiger 1 is to use a "Step Bit" Drill,
First find the centre then pre-drill with a pin vice then easy does it because a step drill bit is like a hot knife through butter
Shop around because they can be expensive.
Buy new hatches, the ones with the attached hinges , Cheap, and the hinge mounting location for them is already moulded in the Tank body.

That's not so bad.. Except my tank isn't a Tiger, it's a Pershing. And I don't think there are any metal Pershing hatches in existence.

What a fool you must think I am,
Now why did I not know that? unless I was confused by picture after picture of Tiger 1s and no mention of anything else That and the title of the thread.
