I have had my Jagdpanther for months, but haven't used it much. I was giving it a whizz round the lounge yesterday when it started to veer off to one side. A quick look told me that it had jumped the teeth on the left sprocket. Not a problem I thought ( I have fitted metal tracks and front and rears), I just pulled off the front sprocket, re-aligned the track and put it back together..and it did it again as soon as I reversed.
Hmm..I then realised that the sprocket was way out of line, and after a lot of experimenting I managed to fit an M3 nut behind the sprocket to bring it out from the hull. All was ok, but it still wasn't perfect.
I then waggled the drive shafts. The left one was rock solid, the right one had loads of play in it.
I took the hull off today and soon established that the final drive shaft was moving back and forth. The final drive gear is spline mounted, and had not been pushed far enough along the shaft to pull the slack out. I also had to nudge the sideplate to allow the brass bush to properly support the shaft.
Strangely the left one is all perfect.
After a lot of tweaking I got it all to align so that the tracks stay on no matter what I do, but it has to be said that I managed to get a Jagdpanther with a Friday afternoon gearbox in it!
If you find your tracks keep slipping off, see if your driveshafts move, as that is a potential source of the problem.
Cheers
