Son of a gun-ner Have you seen my builds , someone said my builds are 2 steps forward and 1 back.
I don't mind changing stuff even when the final paint is on.
One day i might buy some reference books, but having a planned build is boring.

Re: Rule no 8
Take no notice of those one step back guys
All are welcome to join in the fun
But if you had/have no intention of joining in. Why are you worried about rule 8?
Well, I'm no rivet counter, just so long as mine are obvious depictions I'm happy

Re: Rule no 8
I see the TOTM as a friendly way to show off your pride and joy. I've entered many times, won and lost. I think that adding a build thread ( if available) can only improve your chances just like a video or photos. Add what you can and have fun.
In some cases I've entered pieces that I've purchased from MichaelC and Tom and Rad, many submissions I dont have build threads if I'm too busy, if well documented I will add a link.
Many I've entered are scratch built, some rebuilt, some are simply repainted and rewired just for the sake of a friendly competition. I always add where I've acquired the piece if the build began in someone else's shop.

Re: Rule no 8
I myself have never entered the TOTM.. Why? Because I feel it's not really fair to people.. Sure, I've done a hell of a lot of extra details on my tank, and essentially rebuilt it from the ground up.. But most of the work was already done for me by Taigen.. So I truly feel it would be cheating in a way.. I can't take credit for something I didn't do myself.. That would be unfair to those that actually busted their ass to build something that they put a lot of blood, sweat and tears and money into..
I did very minor paint work and detailing to it.. What I did do however, is gut it all out down to the last wire, and rebuild it all from scratch.. However, again, I don't feel like I can take credit for that either given the IBU system was designed and built by someone else.. All I did was install it.. Something any 8 year old could do.. Nothing special about that..
Just my .2 cents..

I used to be indecisive. Now, I'm not sure..

Re: Rule no 8
Good evening,
As it was originally set up, the TOTM takes in everyone who has done work on their tank or had another work on it. We never considered the source of the tank, HL, Torro\Taigen, Hooben or Tamiya. What mattered was that the entrants wanted to show off what _they_ had done to make the tank their own. gp100, rebuilding your Taigen surely qualifies just as much as someone who fires up the lathe and builds their tank from scratch out of metal. Remind me to look you up the next time I install an IBU2, Doc. 8 year olds must have something on me. *chuckles* Anyway, Heaven and Hel are in the details and for me, that's what turns any RTR or Kit Built tank into a piece of rolling art.
regards,
Painless

For reasons I won't go into I am in a pretty foul mood over matters unrelated to the Forum, with that in mind please forgive my vitriolic comments they are not directed toward any individual member of the Forum.
WHY does anyone expect that to enter TOTM members of any age or skill level should feel obliged to scratchbuild a museum quality r/c Tank or related armour before it is deemed worthy of entry into what is essentially an opportunity for ones modelling skills to be presented to the rest of the Forum NOT to be judged but admired for the effort and dedication that has gone into the entry,
If there were financial awards or a "Cup"for the "Winner" I would perhaps expect a system of classes and grades for best of ------, but this as is often repeated (Sorry for the tautology) by SoG a FUN Competition.
Those of us who for reasons of penury or lack of either machine tools or a degree in engineering or electronics but an affection for rc armour who feel obliged to utilize messrs Heng Longs tainted products are limited in what they can do when compared with a Tamiya or Ludwig Product offered in the same months running order and the members who vote are sensible enough to judge on what they like and not on what it cost to make.
If ever I were to vote it would be based on the detail and the obvious research that has gone into a model but doing that would preclude "Paper" Models and there has to be a place for them in this competition and those looking for perfection could have a problem evaluating an original offering that has no real world prototype to compare with.
This competition is for FUN and to bring together in one place a worldwide group of like minded peoples of varying ages and abilities best efforts in a field of many challenges,
Long may it have a staunch chairman in the form of Son of a Gunner and let us not forget those who sat in that seat prior to that worthy gentleman.
