It's been a very long time, and I only got to fly up there three or four times, to deliver or pick up birds. We only had two places that we had to take aircraft to for higher level maintenance, Mannheim and Mainz, and that's how we referred to them. The view from the air from Mannheim to Ansbach is really something special. One of those "once-in-a-lifetime" kind of views, and as a PFC still in his teens, the front seat of an AH-1 was a very cool place to see it from.
