A Cautionary tale of 2 filaments

I have been having increasing problems over the last week with print quality, and as you do I suspected a growing problem on my printer. I checked and adjusted everything, all seemed in order, but still the problem persisted and seemed to be getting worse. I had a big print job (12 hours) and wasn't sure I had enough filament so I ordered a new reel and because my previous supplier had upped his price I picked a different supplier (GEEETECH) and with some trepidation began my 12 hour print.

WOW, not only were the problems gone but the crispness and quality of the print were awesome, took me back to when I first bought my printer.

Just shows how different filaments can make a difference. I must add though that in hindsight with the bad weather we are having, it is possible that the older filament had absorbed some moisture so it may not all be the fault of the filament, although the house is well heated and at a constant temp.

I only discovered 2 weeks ago that when printing PLA on the CR10 that I can set the heated bed to zero degrees and everything still sticks perfectly. No more waiting for it to warm up, and saving electric too.

I've had issues with Geetech filament as well - in the end I had to tell cura it had a 0.4 nozzle, but run with an 0.5 in order to stop it blocking up all the time. Might be worth giving that a go if you start having issues
