Re: Bad Manners.
Being very slow on the uptake it was over a year before I even realised that I had been sent an E-Mail/PM by the management but I did not need it to be told/invited to introduce myself before eating the strawberry cheesecake,
It is what people of my generation do and my observation of young people is that they also maintain a decent standard just as long as their parents do their job in bringing up their offspring properly.
Although my lady still giggles when I stand up in a room when a lady comes in, (5 sisters and a Military Father had a lot to do with it)

Re: Bad Manners.
Funny you should say that, back in the days before I'd made lieutenant Dan and lost my posts (would have been Captain Caveman by now), I'd been a member for around half a year or more, and a similar thread like this was started by the usual "older of us," so, I made a post, letting them know how long I'd been a member, and stating it was a two way street as my first introduce yourself post hadn't received a single replyjhamm wrote:I agree with all that had been stated in this thread too.
Manners and kindness are a matter of parenting education.
The older of us should therefore first look in the mirror.....

Well, both the original posters had made introductory posts as their first post upon joining the forum, therefore they were both brought up correctly

Re: Bad Manners.
I still stand for a Woman that enters a room that I have never met...........I have daughters & expect that to be the case for others & am vociferous when let down.
I open the car door for my Wife............rain or shine.
My Father drilled me with "hate me all you like boy, but dare disrespect your Mother & I will bury you"
I will make some effort to approach a person for introduction, but present myself as me, politely, but not some phantom of an expected perception of an unwritten standard by which I am expected to subliminally conform to..............& if thats not to your liking-tough tittie.
I will not feel outraged by those that are what I believe to be of inferior upbringing, nor do I pander to their new age open minded opinions........
Those types receive the lash of cynicism and abrasiveness born of years of let downs, smashed hopes, broken bodies & terrible life experiences............take that back to your white-picket-vegan- greens- climate change-(and several other analogies I would not like to bring up here) fence & bash it in your clacker.
In classic terms, I'm known in the old language as, a prick.!

Re: Bad Manners.
Funny how it's mentioned about standing when a lady comes into the room, but forget one should also stand when a gentleman first joins the group, because it is bad manners not to shake hands, and is especially bad manners to shake hands while sitting.
One of my biggest annoyances is when I go out my way to hold a door open for someone and they ignore me and the fact I've been polite, I usually say out loud "you're welcome" in a sarcastic tone. But now I'm getting a tad deaf, I miss a quiet thank you, so just say it in a normal tone just in case lol.
Edit; I could stare at them to see if their lips moved, but that may make them think I'm the local loony. . . .
