Re: Lipo battery
Why chuck it away 2 good cells one dead cell, if it was in a hard case it would be a pain to open up. Ordered some lipo balance leads , the only danger is shorting out the terminals. Have a lipo charging bag , and if the tank burns out thats life. To me rc tanks is about the build and proportional mechanics , painting is secondary .

Re: Lipo battery
Look, I am the cheapest guy you can find in the forum and maybe on the entire internet, with a real sickness on saving, and I recycle and save everything, everywhere... And I agree with what most of people are telling you don't do it.
If the tank burns thats life, yeah, sure. If your entire house burns that's life too.
Lipos are very dangerous and I had a couple of serious problems with them, so if one cell is dead, the others might be damaged, and once it sets fire it seems there is no way to stop it.
Said that, I do make my own battery packs, but with high quality li ion 18650s batteries, which are way more stable. Depending how you wire them, 2 should give you about 3.500 mah. 4 the double.
I just dont use lipos anymore, and one that has failed I would not even touch it with your hands.
Just my opinion, but hey.

Re: Lipo battery
I have told this story before,
The reason why Li-Po Batteries are not allowed to travel as Air Freight is because some years ago a Boeing 727 flying for an Air Freight Carrier in the USA was loaded with a crate of Li-Pos,
The crate somewhere between the Warehouse and the 727s hold was damaged and the Batteries caught fire,
In flight the flames escaped the crate and burnt through the steel control cables,
The aircraft came down in the Florida Everglades killing all on board,
The NTSB identified the cause and ordered all American Air Carriers to cease carrying Li-Pos as Freight,
BUY a New Battery.

Re: Lipo battery
Thats why you should always use a LIPO charging bag or a tin box. Funny thing is nobody bothers about phone batteries and phones are getting bigger with powerful batteries.

I just wanted to mention phones but didn't want to add more oil to the flame.ronnie42 wrote:Thats why you should always use a LIPO charging bag or a tin box. Funny thing is nobody bothers about phone batteries and phones are getting bigger with powerful batteries.

Re: Lipo battery
It's only the very latest phones that are carrying Li-Po batteries. Most have Li-ion. I believe Samsung screwed up with Li-Po in the S7's, remember when they used to catch fire or explode.RenoirLV wrote:I just wanted to mention phones but didn't want to add more oil to the flame.ronnie42 wrote:Thats why you should always use a LIPO charging bag or a tin box. Li-Po's are fine with the correct electronics that support them, and don't allow overly fast discharge, also with the correct charger designed for Li-Po.

Re: Lipo battery
I've been using lipos for several years now and I still haven't had one go bad on me, but if one does I'll simply dispose of it properly and there's no way I'd be crazy enough to try and take it apart and fix it. That's a disaster waiting to happen.

Wasn't it Lipos that kept the Dream Liner
grounded! If Boeing can't manage them..... but then Boeing seem to be able to manage less and less these days!
