Ah fair play. That hammer looks very deceiving but cheers for clearing it up.

Don’t discount a Tamiya Tiger, they run superbly out of the box - I have two :) detailing is excellent and they sound good too.

You're welcome. There's no quick or correct answer to your question. You need to spend s couple of weeks browsing this site and picking up info and tips on route.

Don't spend masses on your first tank. Most of us started with a Henlong something or other and learned the ropes from that and following discussions here. If you have a RC background you have a good start. If not, there's a lot to learn but it's all fun!

Good luck

The ready fitted tools on Taigen Tank bodies is the biggest single reason Why I avoid them and the latest PZ 4 Taigen Body still has the tools moulded in place, The faff involved in trying to paint such an equipped body is more than I care to get involved with.
If you have a Heng Long Body you can rub down the body with Acrylic Thinners to degrease it then with very little masking paint to your hearts content,
After painting is finished you then have the option of fitting Heng Longs own Tools or using after market metal tools.
Its a No Brainer especially as the Heng Long Tank will be cheaper and as we have recently discussed on this Forum the quality of todays Heng Long tanks is as good as Taigens including the Electrics.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

That's because that hammer was painted while on the hull because it's clearly noticeable it is moulded on. You can clearly see the handle paint overlapping on the hull.

Wow, you are right Mick. That s newer hull with zimmerit! I don't remember us agreeing the latest V6 mfu etc was as good as the latest T/T one BUT.. as l said above, most us started out with HL. As good an entry point as any

Fixed wing and small heli's mostly. I suppose the main thing that might carry over is the experiece of buying Chinese anything is always a gamble! Sometimes you win and other times you deffinitely dont.

Yeah, but the tools are on the top as usual.
When they make moulding tools, especially ones for hull sized moulds, because they are expensive, they make them in multiple parts for maintenance, they probably kept the moulding plate for the top in the same pattern for even the zimmerit covered one. Keeps the cost down and makes the parts more universal if they're interchangeable.

I really like Heng Long tanks, but it is pot luck whether they are good or not out the box.
Some need improvements straight out the box.
I also really like Taigen, but as Mr jarndice points out, they still insist on using their original pattern moulds and mould those tools on, just like the original first Heng Long Tiger 1. That to me is not acceptable. And even that bloody dam extra aerial storage tube that never was on the left of a Tiger 1 is still on both makes.
The Taigen tanks that are equipped with all the metal upgrades already installed is a good price for what you get, but total historical accuracy is not included with any tank, even Tamiya don't get it all correct, but they're close.

Perhaps you should look deeper into your self. If that's that way it's said in English. Maybe the choice of your first tank does not depend on technical stuff like moulded tools or not. Perhaps there is something else that attracts you to a particular tank.
I wanted the Tiger 1 early for the road wheels. Seen a lot in footage of those days and missed sorely in most war movies. In fact no movie until Fury ever featured an accurate tiger. Let alone a real one.
I also wanted it for the image that it had made on those at the receiving end of the barrel.

2x early Tiger 1's made from parts of HL, Taigen, Mato and whatever I saw suitable.

All fair points chaps and good food for thought. I do like modelling just as much as flying/running tanks or whatever so be good to have something I can make my own without having to spend hours shaving bits off. Tools were just the first thing that popped into my mind.
As much as i like some of the obscure tank destroyers too i can imagine they would put you at a bit of a disadvantage if i were to have a regular play with the guys at Grantham.

Maybe looking like the new V6 heng long tiger with some good gearboxes and metal tracks etc could be a winner.
