Battery maintenance

Post by Ragnar »

I had removed and set my 7.4 Li-ion battery out of my henglong panzer 3 in a draw for probably close to 6-8 mos, as I was busy with other projects,
On putting it back in my tank after charging found it was good for 10-15 mins before the tank began shutting off and having to be constantly restarted. I’m assuming throwing it in that drawer and basically forgetting it was not my smartest move,
Also even though I bought a MX2 charger from Imex think I’m going to be looking at some of the better chargers recommended here on RCTANKWARFARE..
But it’s a dry heat!

From the web:

If the voltage of a lithium-ion cell drops below a certain level, it's ruined. Lithium-ion batteries age. They only last two to three years, even if they are sitting on a shelf unused.

One of the great advantages of a lithium battery is it has no memory effect, which means recharging a partially charged lithium battery is not harmful. And partial discharges with frequent recharges are much healthier for a lithium battery than one long deep discharge. High discharge rates contribute to damage and strain on a lithium battery. But by charging lithium ion batteries at a slower charge rate and more frequently, you can expect the life of your lithium battery to last much longer.

Ok now we know not to do that again! Run the tank run the tank run the tank. :haha:

Well there is a storage mode to use. It is charged to about 7.7volts and then it is said to be safe to store on shelves for a long time.

2x early Tiger 1's made from parts of HL, Taigen, Mato and whatever I saw suitable.
