Electrical Question
Electrical Question
I'm doing a late Tiger conversion and was wondering about the headlights. I have the single Bosch LED headlight to install and had planned on removing the two HL lights and just using the stock wiring, but by removing one of the headlights will there be to much voltage and possibly harm the single light? I always get "series" and "parallel" mixed up. I'm sure this has been done hundreds of times but haven't seen this question answered.
Re: Electrical Question
Hi Ern
I have never done this myself but I was thinking that if you use the HL "stock" wiring for your one head lamp could you not use the remaining wires for adding a rear "convoy" lamp?
As I always state I am a complete newbie at modelling but do intend to hopefully have early, mid and late tiger 1s
If my idea is garbbage please let me know

Re: Electrical Question
Well the jagdpanther only uses one and thats ok, I would just give it a go. I am guessing that the reason the question has never been asked is because others have done the conversion without any problems. You may find that the Bosch has a different LED that will take twice the power, seeing as it is sold as a conversion?
Thinking about it, if you take the old lights off, pull back the sleeving and see if there is a resistor attached to the + leg of an LED. If there is, then HL have fitted LED's that take less than 5v (probably 3v each side). If you know what the voltage is on the new light, you could just solder a resistor on the + leg of that to ensure that no more than the required voltage gets to the bulb.
The other option is to detach one HL light from the circuit and power it up. If the remaining bulb doesn't blow, then the new one should be ok too.

Re: Electrical Question
Great illustration AFV - thank you!
JTS, I'm not sure about the RX18 boards, but am using an RX14. It has a slot for rear lights that isn't used with the Tigers, but is for other models. My intentions are to either make a convoy light, or buy one of the commercially available ones [although a bit expensive and I haven't seen a retailer for them here in the States.
WW, thanks for your input. Thinking about what you were saying, I think I'll just use the HL lights as guinea pigs and remove one and see if the one remaining lights blows. Granted, they may not be the same bulb as the Bosch, but should give me an idea. Good idea!
