just my penny's worth here for you we have 7 of the taigen js2 left in stock at 399.99 un damaged we cant post them as they wont travel to well in the current post system
this will be the last we have of this tank for a while

I've noticed that Tamiya's split hatch opens left and right but Taigen's opens fore and aft. A quick look at images of the real thing in ww2 action shows both to exist so did the cupola somehow turn? Any thoughts?

The AA machine gun fits onto the ring around the hatch, so maybe the whole top section rotates to avoid the hatch fouling the mount?

Yep, that's so. I've just read a comprehensive document on the IS family and the whole cupola does indeed rotate. Nice design. Unfortunately it also states that the huge 50 calibre mg mounted on the cupola was not fitted until after WW2, which might explain why one isn't included.

Just finished reshaping the stock supplied German commander with a Russian uniform and rolled padded hat with flaps. Painted appropriately, he now sits in the cupola hoping no enemy riflemen appear until late '45 when they give him a MG!

To answer your earlier exhortation, Gen.J , I'm fighting hard to overcome the 'must buy' imperative for this pleasingly refined Taigen model, because I had wanted to buy the (basic) Ludwig Comet kit. Still do, in fact. That's my quandary...

It's truly beautiful here, but the unjustified surcharges put on deliveries, as well as the threat of additional charges accruing re: 'Brexit', means it probably makes sense to buy from a European outlet now, rather than later. If my pension could stretch f u r t h e rrr ( it won't), I'd have the Taigen as well.
The Taigen appears to be so well presented, and applauded, that there's maybe not enough for the tinkerer to get on with. So far, anyway.
Whereas, the Comet...hmmm..that's a bucket list item.

Its true, there isn't that much to do with new IS-2 except weathering and overcoming the switch niggle (easily sorted) unless you want to do a different camo. As for costs, the US and Russian preorder price is WAY more than Daves at Forgebear, plus there is no postage costs as you need to drive south to Bedford to collect! Don't order on-line until Taigen sort out their box packaging or it could arrive as a kit.

I see your point though - if you want a kit to build and keep you busy for a least a few weeks then unless Taigen release this model in unpainted kit form you will be twiddling you thumbs instead but.......

you will be able to sit back, sipping your favourite tipple, gazing across the room at one of the sweetest model tanks made to date and still have change from the price of a Tamiya to buy another!

Tempting isn't it?

Odd, there are references saying they removed the gun for Berlin as it fouled telegraph wires! There's a pic about half way down on here https://historyimages.blogspot.com/2011 ... s-ww2.html showing the DSHK, could be they didn't have enough to outfit all the units? There's also the lack of German air power by late 1944 making AA defences less necessary.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but judging from the number of members with the IS-2 still on their
wish list this may still be of interest.

Mine sits on my coffee table and has now done so since just before Christmas, so more than 3 months ago. This week l noticed that the nose of the hull was sagging slightly, enough for the rearmost road wheel has lifted off the 'road'.

If you analyse the position of the masses, the hull is well balanced but the metal turret is about a third from the nose and the centre of the heavy barrel is actually just in from of the nose! This is probably why.

A simple answer, other than stand your tanks on hull stands, is to park the turret pointing rearward where overall balance is restored. This should stop the tank developing an unwanted stoop.

A long term fix would be to place weight between the gearboxes and/or adjust the suspension preload on the front two sets of road wheels. Hope this is helpful.

That's very helpful! I have kept mine parked with the gun pointed rearwards to save space as I work on it. ( and avoid swatting that long, long barrel by accident ) I've noticed no suspension sag but once complete, I will park mine with a block under it to avoid long term compression. ( all of the 'heavy' tanks in my laager have this done )
