Doubts About Jagdpanther Gun Mantlet Mod

Post by Mackem »

Hi All,

After studying available pictures and drawings, I'm starting to have doubts about chopping between 5mm & 8mm off the top of the gun mantlet. The picture below shows a jagdpanther with it's main gun at 0 degrees elevation and the top of the mantlet is level, or maybe slightly higher than the fighting compartment roof.

If I do remove 5 to 8mm from the top of the mantlet on my jagdpanther, at 0 degrees gun elevation the top of the mantlet will be well below the fighting compartment roof.

So, is this mod necessary? Opinions please.

Cheers
John

hi mate, maybe 8mm is too much but the H/L mantlet definitely looks wrong or it could be the shape thats wrong and not the height  perhaps 3 or 5 mm would look better ?.......................oz

Cheers lads, you've made my mind up.
The mantlet is slightly too high, but it is also the wrong shape.
So, 3mm off the top and some padding out with good old milliput is called for.
Looks like the Pz III will be the first tank I use the new airbrush on, not the jagd.  ;) ;D

Thanks

John,

I think your right, I took 8mm off and it looked wrong, I ended up building it back up again by about 5mm. I also thought once the LED was sanded off it has slightly the wrong curve shape so padded that out.

Hi John you are right with the mantlet thats one of the things I noticed when I saw the first pictures of the hl jp it is too high I think they done that to make it easier for the ir system let us know how you get on as I have still to do my jp.
