With access to all that impressive hardware In NZ, Herman, and the now quite restrictive gun laws in Oz, do you miss the smell of gun oil and (emery cloth) smelling gasses?
Part of the appeal fo me- a large part, in fact- is the workmanship, and ingenuity, found in some of these aged armaments. I actually enjoy stripping them down and reassembling 'em.
I'm a big fan of Ian McCollum and his 'Rock Island Auctions' presentations (Rare firearms), as well as his 'Forgotten Weapons'. He's a genuine and eloquent enthusiast. Moral issues don't seem to hover round him..
I now get to fire my lad's Lee-Enfield a couple of times a year: the same weapon my Father and Grandfather used (type..not the actual one :haha: ). Arguably, the best battle rifle ever made.
It's really a genuine pleasure to handle a legendary WW1 and WW2 weapon, for someone who enjoys engineering, although I try not to think of the hundreds of thousands of souls they've sent back to Mother Earth... :problem:
