I agree totally.Eastern Front wrote:Hi, Don't get me wrong, love creativity, been restoring cars for over 30 years now... My choice to dislike "Ratrods" is both philosophical and professional where automotive knowledge etc stems from. To me, restoring a car to factory new condition or appearing new on the outside but modernizing the internals (Restomod) to a vehicle that has provided many years of service is like rewarding your loyal horse to a retirement in a nice field instead of a trip to a glue factory.. I also am motivated by the historical aspect of it, our children need to see history as it truly was, not modified to some cartoon looking reality. to finish, would you want to see a Tiger I mocked up by Hollywood for a new mad max movie with all kinds of garbage welded to the hull? or would you like to see it as it truly was new or like the day it was removed from the battlefield?Will01Capri wrote:For me that's good. The pleasure is mine.
On a philosophical note: taking something that is destroyed and making it new is something we should all want to rise up to, to take something that was good to begin with and turn it into some apparition is opposite of humanity on many levels, it is like watching people on you tube who are proud of their ignorance, hurts my brain!
My opinion...
Cheers!
I suppose i lucky then. I have many scale models and I also like historically accurate.
But all my left over bits, get upcycled into mad builds. Nothing wasted as they say.
I do the same with the big stuff.
2 E Types and one is a concourse full original rebuild. The other is a modified version so it looks original but upgraded to enjoy in the modern world.
3 Riley RMs from 40s and 50s. 1 is immaculate original, the 2nd needs ALOT of work. The 3rd a basket case, but it reckon a Goodwood esque racer be fitting.
Then my Capri was rescued from a garage and is a restomod.
Although at the moment life is in the way and the models keep the fingers busy.
Sorry my last reply was not meant to insult or antagonize, but Rat Rods really are only to be enjoyed by mad crazy insane folk. I love my cars etc, but sometimes it bad sh$$ crazy to enjoy something which is totally ridiculous haha
I feel we are almost on same page.

Funnily enough it is the fact I work in the auto industry designing parts for cars. But sheer frustration has drawn me close to the Rat community as everyrhing is too clinical now. There isn't much room for something new anymore.
Changing subject back to my Crawler. In have just got 2x 600rpm 16mm geared motors on order. So i will be adjusting my twin motor design to work on the std WPL wheelbase. Should work alot better then
