HL Truck Mods

Heng Long/WPL are now manufacturing 1/16 scale RC trucks, so it seemed sensible to create a forum area dedicated to the amazing things that members are doing with them. Post your builds, mods, and tips here.

COOL. That is retro WW2 Rat Rodding right there!
Looks like an old burago or similar plastic kit which has been cut and shut. But looks totally awesome.

As for me I finally got my Hilux crawler running for a test. Those little n20s are totally crap! Stripped in less than 1min.
So going for twin 16mm motors now!
The 160rpm motors however will be going 300rpm a d that be enough speed and torque on 2s.

Gary I copied you motor death comment, hope you dont mind. N20s were hurt in the making of this test!

Sorry for the delay. These are the pens. I just had them layin' around so I have no idea how much they cost or where to get them but since Bic is a huge brand name I imagine they should be around, maybe at a stationary store or someplace like Office Depot or Staples.

The tape on the end of the pen is to replace the cap I stole. @)

I'm sure there are plenty of other sources for a suitable mirror, we just have to look around and use our imaginations. To be honest, this wan't an original idea, I saw another guy that had used parts of a pen to scratchbuild something and that's where I got the idea to just look at ink pens for parts. The rest of the mirror assembly is just styrene rod and flat stock. Very easy to make, really, and I used Zap Goo to attach the mirror itself, and Tamiya thin styrene cement to assemble the rod and attachment block, with loctite 435 to attach the block to the door.

With the new printer I may be able to get decent quality mirrors, maybe print a half dozen at a time, and if anyone needs some I'm usually happy to help out. I could send mirrors anywhere in the world for the price of sending a Christmas card.

As for the fuel tanks, I'm happy to print those for whoever needs them, but you'll have to pay postage and across the pond it might not be worth it. But, for anyone in the states with a zip code I can send a small flat rate box for eight bucks.

Hope that helps.

No worries, thanks Gary, for me, the pen top is perfect, especially as I don't have a printer

For me that's good. We don't want everyone to like them, otherwise it defeats the point. They are unique to the individual and undoubtedly will split opinion and not to anyone else's taste.

My first thought when I saw the picture was of Cruella De Ville not the live action but the cartoon when she managed to wreck it in a berm. :lolno:
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:
