HL Truck Mods

Heng Long/WPL are now manufacturing 1/16 scale RC trucks, so it seemed sensible to create a forum area dedicated to the amazing things that members are doing with them. Post your builds, mods, and tips here.

"In reality most trucks don't have locking diffs, but in the model world we tend to run over terrain which in scale would be very rough indeed, so it makes locked diffs much more necessary".
Every Scania and every Volvo from the 80s onward that was in the yard had Diff locks,
We trucked throughout Europe and a lot of work just could not be done without them.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Fair enough, i stand corrected :)

Are these driver operated and therefore switchable locking diffs, or do you mean they are limited slip locking diffs? Be good for my interest.
I have seen few trucks where you can switch the diff locks on/off.

I've been wondering what ESC you were using, so if you find something please post the link. I think 3S might vastly improve the N20s I have in the WC51, so I'd like to give them a try, and I need a 3s ESC for my Opel Blitz if I hope to save it. The board they sell at asiatam has some great features, like horn, turn signals, motor sounds, etc, but the motor controllers are weak. I've roasted two boards so far from minor stalls, and those puppies ain't cheap. I think I can save it with a separate ESC, but it's still uncharted territory for me. We'll see what happens.

I like your dual motor box. So can you make me an STL file for some 16th scale window frames? :/ :haha:

Will share experience in a 3s esc I looking at once it arrives. It says 60a. I don't believe, but for sure way overated for the 16mm motors. Probably need 20 a max.

Window frames? Eh?
Pm picture and a form of measure. Sounds an easy CAD task

Hardest part would be to cut the hole in the building square to start with

Could be a good task for a sunday afternoon CAD training session via skype 8)

Truck diff locks are driver operated usually by a switch on the panel,
Our Drivers were warned only to use them with the truck in the straight ahead position otherwise they might break a Half-Shaft.
In my humble opinion Diff locks, Turbo Chargers and Lift axles have been the biggest engineering improvements in Heavy lorries since the invention of the Range change gearbox.

Cutting the hole square is the easy part. CAD training via skype sounds fun. You are using Fusion 360 correct?

How about you, Will? Anybody else? Wayne? Does anybody remember the guy in Colorado that made window stickers for 16th houses? I used them in Ansbach West. It would be very cool to reproduce those in 3D. I'm not worried about cutting holes, I just print widow dressing in the appropriate colors on my fancy printer, laminate them, and place behind windows. As a last resort one can always do black-out curtains.
