Found a video of someone testing out the metal gearbox. He also has a set of the all metal CNC axles. They appear to have unlocked diffs.

Hi.
I watched that vid quite a while ago and whilst the motor g box is very torque it is also very slow.
With relation to the unlocked diffs i have seen inside such an axle from a supplier on e bay and they are just a full metal version of the standard crown wheel and pinnion diff ie solid with only a metal crown wheel and 4 ball bearing races fitted to an Aluminium CNC maachined outer axle.
If you check out the video of the front axle whilst lifte? you can see both front wheels turning at the same speed plus the centre part of the axle is not big enough for a full functional diff set up.
Just my opinion and what i have seen previously.

Nice, I didn't catch that. It's why I didn't glue the tires on the wheels of my truck. Locked diffs are hard on rear axles. Especially on non-slip surfaces with load.

The JJRC trucks have an actual differential. When you turn one wheel the other turns in the oposite direction. I've heard that can be problematic, as when one wheel leaves the ground all power gets transferred to that wheel and the one on the ground does nothing. I hear some grease or thick oil helps a lot with that, but I haven't tried it yet. As yet I only have one JJRC truck, but I do have a spare axle so maybe I'll open it up on video.

Yes unfortunately thats the same with real vehicle diffs and why cars etc get stuck in snow.
Race cars and some high performance vehs etc have whats called a limited slip differential...it allows the inner wheel on a corner to slow down slightly then automatically locks the diff to give power to both rear wheels to allow the power to be transmitted to both the road wheels an essential mod on any rally car.
Some people have even locked the JJRC diffs with Gorilla glue as it is an issue with this model if you go off road with it.

Yes, limited slip is the name of the game for general off-roading trucks. At least for the rear axle. The front axle should have lockers, or just bee locked. I've seen people use the thick grease trick for Tamiya king hauler axles. It should work the same for the JJRC. I don't want the JJRC ones because they don't offer a metal version. Yet...

Yeah the Tamiya axles it was common practice to run thick grease as the locker axle kits cost a bomb.

In reality most trucks don't have locking diffs, but in the model world we tend to run over terrain which in scale would be very rough indeed, so it makes locked diffs much more necessary.

I will be running metal converted WPL axles in.my recovery 6x6 MAN Bruder truck.
But with my Mercedes Actros I will be running only as a 6x4 using jjrc axles.
Not sure what to do with my 6 wheel MACK tipper. Probably just go metal WPL 6x6

But also now a few pictures of my new Twin Motor mount that i designed for my GAZ69 4x4 which uses twin geared 12V 16mm units.
This thing will be running 3S power. The grunt these motors make is quite good really and the gears are enclosed unlike the N20 geared units.
I will be scaling this up for twin 25mm units in the future for an 8x8 or more.

There is then a hinged locking cover to help secure the motors. I use some rod pushed down the centre as a pivot and then small self tappers to secure.

Then finally fitted up with the CV joints for my GAZ 69.

Next job to do is to re-position steering servo for the servo horn and connect up the steering.
Well chuffed with this little thing. Hopefully get some crawler videos going soon with this little scale troop car.
There is alot of weight in this truck already, which means it seems to get a real nice tipping angle before rolling over, but some more weigh will be added low down to help a bit more with stability.#Anyone seen any cheap 3s esc's out there?
