painting/weathering panzer Grey.

gonna try this post again, i figure if i,m explaining panzer Grey then i had better post pics of a panzer Grey tank............

once the tank is broken down into its main components spray the whole thing in a Matt black primer (pic,1) give it 24 hours to dry then spray on the base color, give this 3 or 4 thin coats instead of one thick coat (pic,2)

next take your panzer Grey and add about 10% light or medium Grey and spray this  into the middle of all the panels hatches and plates on the tank,
leave the edges of the panels panzer Grey, then set your airbrush nozzle to fine and drop the pressure on the compressor a little bit and start to squiggle the paint onto the tank (pic,3 4) the cupola and the barrel were done by striping the paint instead of squiggling it.

let it dry then add a bit more light Grey and put this on top of the first panzer grey / light grey mix, again put this into the middle of the paintwork leaving the edges untouched, (pic,5 6) and (pic, 7) the barrel.

ok mate no problem, i,ll carry on with the paint up..................oz

next step is the pastels these are very cheap and come in a massive range of colors, you will need three brushes for this stage they don't have to be expensive as pastels make the bristles dry out, the first brush is for stippling the second for painting and the third is for blending out, once the pastels are on using brush two use brush three to lightly blend and fade out the colors you use and in the direction you want, i used the stipple brush on the smoke launchers the muzzle break and the mantlet mg, the pastels i like to use are 1,black  2,is like a yellow ocher  3,orange  4,dark brown  5,mid brown  6,dark rust,take a scalpel blade and scrape off the pastel into a pile and brush it on.

put the pastels into any weld seams sharp angles panel lines or deep recesses on the tank once you are done it should look a bit like this, i used pastel number four as the base other pastels will go on top of this to fade things out more.

Another brillient lesson. do you seal your pastels some how? ive tried them before but they tend to rub off over time.

i use Johnson's klear floor polish to seal everything in, mist on several coats to get the tank nice and glossy this protects and prepares things for the washes to follow, in the pic the paintwork looks rather dull but in fact its very subtle which is what i want...........cheers oz
