Testing IR systems, how do you?

Post by outlaw_825th »

We have two tanks with Taigen IR, but they dont talk. How can I test them to find whats at fault?

One is a Taigen V1, the other is OP set to Taigen V1. Both have Taigen apples, one is the earlier green board, the other is the later red board.

Check first the IR's are working by setting your phone to camera and firing the gun. The IR should visably light up.

Using the phone camara? ok i'll try that. I'll also put a meter across the TX parts, dont know why I hadnt already.

Mine is an OP board, I can connect it up and snoop whats going on, but going to start at the very basic level as niether seem to work!

I'm going to recheck all the wiring to start, done it a few times but usually tired by the time I do stuff on the workbench :wtf: 8O

OK, tried the camara trick on both. Nothing showed on either.

Put my voltmeter across my OP board and it only showed .5v on fire, but depending on how instant the voltage would be, that could be normal.

Wiring is the next follow through check

Hi
Just a note if you are using a phone or tablet camera to see if the I.R bulb is firing. I find that it does not show up on Apple products like iPhone or ipad. I have to use my Galaxy android phone to do this test as nothing shows up on my ipad

The main camra does not work at all well on the iphone for IR signals, but the rear facing one does!

Now to test the tanks ....
