Another Jagdpanther Build

Post by Mackem »

Hi All,

Started work on the Jagd today, removed the gun cleaning rod tube and the jacking block. Filled the holes and primed the upper hull. Also filled the holes for the spare tracks as I'm going to build my own track hangers.

When the primer had dried I made a start on the weld seams. I do the weld seams after the primer as I find the milliput adheres better.

I've still got some welds to add to the hull roof here and there, then I'll make a start on the track hangers.

Cheers

Michelekingtiger: The welds are done with milliput and a craft knife. The welds on the Jagdpanther are really easy as Mr. HL has made the grooves were the welds go very deep.

Raven : I'll be pinching your mantlet trimming tip pretty soon.

Hi All,

Managed to get a little more work completed on the Jagdpanther.
Completed the welds on the fighting compartment roof.

Knocked together some spare track hangers from styrene strip.

Will have to raid the wifes jewellery box to get some fine chain for the securing bolts on the spare track hangers.  ;)

Next job will be the side skirts.

Lovely work John. I'll be following your example closely as my HL Jagdpanther hull top arrived yesterday. You've done a fantastic job on the track hangers too. I was considering buying the ready-made pewter ones 'till I saw the price  :o :o :o

Cheers

Thanks Chris, I was thinking of making the spare track hangers from thin brass at first, but I found some 2mm styrene strip left over from the schurzen on my PzIII and decided to have a go with that. I think they have turned out ok and now that you have said they look good they are staying put.  ;) ;D

Steiner, we were discussing colour schemes at the club on Thursday night. I've decided on  'ambush' cammo for my jagd similar to the Bovington example.

Does anyone know why they haven't painted spots on the dark yellow area's of the Bovington jagdpanther?

Cheers

Hi All,

Made a little more progress with the Jagdpanther. My Academy 1:25 Jagd has 2 grab handles on the engine deck that are missing from the HL version. So I drilled 4 holes and made them from paper clips. I also rotated the lifting lugs on the engine so that the open end faces outwards.

Image

I asked Oz how the tool racks were actually attached to the hull on Thursday night. He told me that they were welded in place using small brackets so that the tool rack itself wasn't actually flush with the hull.
I would have liked to re-create that effect but I didn't want to risk destroying the tool racks in the removal process so I added some tack welds and left them as they are.

Image

While the milliput was out I added some tack welds to the spare track hangers

Image

and added some welds to the hinges on the rear hatch.

Image

While the milliput welds were hardening I made a start on the side skirts. I'm using 0.5mm styrene for the skirts and I'm going to attach 4 skirts each side. Each skirt is 3.5 inches long by 1.5 inches deep.

Image

Once the side skirts are done, I've got some bits and pieces to do on the engine deck, then the gun mantlet and headlight. Hopefully I'll get a dark yellow base coat on later this week.

Cheers
