Panzer 3 track guards

Post by RobW »

Looking at the HL Panzer 3, what are the (more substantial) rods across the top of the tracks? You can see 3 in the image. Could be support bars but the angle is wrong.

Pretty sure track guard support bars are exactly what they are.
Don't get your panties in a bunch , we still got hand weapons and the fifty!

Semi-Circular clamps go over the bar and bolt onto the Track Guard,
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Cheers. I was trying to work out if the bars were to hold/reinforce the guards or were attached to the guards as tie down points. I'd best leave them on then!

Ive seen that tank. Those guards are held on by what I feel are after-market mounts.
Same as the exhaust covers on the Panther at APG Maryland before the collection was broken up and moved.
Also, the centre section of armour is gone. Cut away to allow interior viewing(the turret section is the same but filled by sheet metal)
So, the guard supports are less than authentic.
They are in the right spot, and near enough looking.

Beware of museum exhibits.
They are often semi restored, and not accurate, depending on where the tank is.
