Just file those oversized bolt heads off and replace them. If you can not find a source for really small hardware, try using hex shaped plastic rod. I'm lucky in that I have a hardware store not too far from me that carries REALLY small nuts and bolts. I Have also used the plastic rod on several of my tanks and it really looks great. Just slice the rod into thin pieces and glue on.

I have used another method of making small hex-headed bolts. There are small steel nails used to spike down rails on HO gauge railroads, (they used to be made by Atlas, but I don't know if they are still available). I hold the 'spike' part of the nail between thumb and forefinger, and flatten the edges of the round head with a pair of pliers (most needle-nose pliers have a smooth inner face behind the grooved area). I spin the nail 1/3 of a turn and flatten that area, and then spin it one more 1/3. That gives me a hex-head shape that can be gone over again to even out the six flattened areas. I have also used small brass nails or brads, but have had difficulty finding ones with small enough heads so that the resulting bolt won't be too large. Then drill a hole for it, and glue it in place. On areas that are subject to a lot of handling, they will still be there after glued-on styrene bolt heads, (or the 1/35 resin ones made by Meng) have disappeared.

The best way to simulate bolt heads is to file the old "wrong" size bolt heads off,
Screw the "Correct" Size NUT onto the "Correct" Size bolt but only a couple of turns,
Smear superglue on the base of the NUT and place the nut and bolt assembly Bolt upright on to the surface,
Repeat for as many times as you need simulated Bolts,
When the Glue is "Cured" unscrew the bolt leaving the NUT glued firmly in place,
Using the filler of your choice fill the centre of the NUT,
Allow the filler to dry and smooth flat with emery cloth or a fine file,
Fit the intake to the Tank and Paint.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Franz if you need Small "Bolts, Nuts and screws and other small fixings" I would recommend ---
www.prime-miniatures.co.uk
AND
www.modelfixings.com
I only use these two dealers for these items and I have done for years,
They are totally reliable.

Evening all,

These are the bolt head's I've used for years now, they are made by meng models and come in different set's, sizes and shaped head types, they are labelled as 1/35 but the large size in these are perfect for our tanks. All you need to do is slice them off the plastic panel using a sharp knife and they are ready to use, HTH
