Oh dear 2 new wpl trucks ZIL 151

Finally completed the first one so l now have a fuel bowser tug for my Russian models - although there is now a dispute over who has to get out if the warm to do the job!

The grill and window mods are seen here but the real mods are in the electrics, 20amp f/b/r esc. 6 channel receiver, great sound module, smooth mg servo, and everything (everything) for less than a £100. It runs great (must put a vid on UTube) but what lets this model down is the basic moldings. Some inaccuracies, it even uses the original HengLong truck bumper and not the WPL one with the separate shackles.

Still, at the price its okay and the 2nd one may become a rocket launcher. Rockets....Round tubes with fins, shouldn't be too hard but don't hold your breath!

You too could have one too. It started life as a length of plastic sewer pipe

The sound module is a DasMikro Programmable Sound Unit and speaker, under 20 from Bangood. It sounds just right for a small truck engine and starts up when first driven forwards and shuts down after a minute of non-action. Also easy to setup so it accelerates just as the vehicle moves off. Simple but effective and, importantly, small!

I have one of those. However, I am intrigued with the plastic sewer pipe. My recollection is that they are 110mm diameter, which seems way too big to use in the truck.

Its not IN the truck, we were talking about the tank being pulled behind. It is indeed 110mm diam which in 1/1 scale is 1760mm, or about 69 inches (less if you use it with 1/14 scale). That's perfectly okay on a 72 inch track chassis and matches the one its modelled on. Nevertheless, my father said much the same as you when he saw it, but at 93 he tends to spout b&l@*(s!, bless him.

The Russians based most of their trailer based units on existing agricultural chassis which were normally pulled by caterpillar tractors, also from the farms. I'll keep a look out for one.

I'm guessing you're in the building trade? Why do these pipes have a resin/glass like inner surface. Is it to reduce clagging and blockages? Made a heck of a mess when l disk cut the ends off! (No, it was new, it was the resin stuff that made the mess)

How many bits can you recognise on the model that were something else in a previous life?

SOGs picture looks like a screwcap off of a domestic sink drain pipe side outlet.
The photo gives no detail of scale so I could be quite wrong. (Again)
