Attempt making a Befehlswagen......

Post by Rob59 »

Because the decals which came with my Tiger were useless, and the only ones which I could use looked like sh*t, I decided to go another way.
Did some searching on the web, found the forum "Tiger im Focus" with many pics.
Did some reading too, and found there were units which used characters in combination with numbers, like S01, S33 and so on.
Wanted something different than the usual 3 numbers on the turrets. No offense to the guys on here who run 3 numbers okay, it is just my own opinion for my Tiger :{

Made some sketches on paper, just to check which would look good and which not.
Just some random numbers, nothing in particular.

S01, but it turned out, this tank was only seen in a camo pattern so it was a no go for me.

While searching the "Tiger im Focus" forum I ran into some Befehslwagen with Roman numbers like I, II and III.
I liked that, indeed something different in my opinion.

The real thing

And my interpretation of it

The lady of the house was out this morning, so I took the Tiger into the living room and made my first, handpainted attempt..... 8O

My "home made turret number"

Made another number just for transferring the outlinings

A bit scary to do with my little shaky hands.
If I screw it up, I will have to see how to clean it up again and making the turret ready for another attempt
Decided to start with the red insides of the Roman III and do the white linings tomorrow....

It is not perfect, and i will redo the red again to make it a bit brighter, but on the otherhand......I think there is no need for ultimate perfection in this.
After all it is a battle tank from the Eastern front and no Ferrari or Lamborghini from the dealer's showroom.....right?
Besides that, I think crews on the battlefields might have repainted their turret numbers too which might not have been perfect too.

In the closeup pics it looks a bit crappy, haha, but in real it doesn't look that bad at all!
Will continue tomorrow, or even later this afternoon when the first layer of red has dried up some.

Did order a FUG8 antenna with a 2m German antenna from Tanktoko Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
Both for €19.45 shipping included.
Cheapest place I could get the antenna :P
Will come in somewhere next week.
