Caught Red Handed!
Caught Red Handed!
Guess what arrived while I was in the shower, and no guesses needed at who answered the door!
Yep, Howes Models next day delivery dropped me right in it.
I've got a shiny new HL Jagdpanther and a missus who is far from happy. Seriously though, there is no way I was going to be able to keep this thing a secret, it's huge, it totally dwarfs my PzIV. I've gave it a quick run around the kitchen to check it out and everything works fine.
One thing though, has HL changed the gearing ratio's on the Jagd? At full throttle with a fully charged battery the speed is easily only 50% of my PzIV. Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed a speed reduction?
Cheers
John

Hi John
Tough luck about the delivery time John but I'm sure the bruises will heal eventually :-\
.
It seems HL are shipping their tanks out with hi-torque low speed motors now. They also appear to be using low profile gearboxes for all their tanks. The gear ratio is just the same as their old gearboxes but the lower speed motors make for a much more scale speed (still too fast IMO but a lot better than before). I noticed this in my HL StuG III. I tried swapping the motors with old ones and the speed was back to 'bat outa hell' rate.
I'm wondering if these motors could be bought separately then that would be a very good way of down-grading the speed of Tamiya gearboxes.
Cheers

low speed High torque motors should be available from good RC shops, I was talking to the proprioter from Nitroflight rc and he was very helpful in regards 3-1 gearboxes and low speed Hi torque motors.grompix wrote:

Re: Caught Red Handed!
Has HL begun using a 3rd motor? First we had the black capped Suntechs which turn high rpms (14-16000), almost as many as the Graupner Speed400. Then they switched to the white capped Suntechs which turn about 9-11000 rpms. This motor with the stock 39:1 gearboxes offers realistic speeds of about 1.5 mph.

I found my Jagdpanther was a rocket out of ht ebox. I added a gear to get it to a satisfactory speed.
