Couple of questions, Tiger 1

Hello guys.
I think I will go for the Roman III turret number on my Early.
But, if I am correct, the Tigers with Roman numbers I-II or III, were Befehls Tigers, right?

But what makes them a Befehls Tiger, optically?
Is it just the antenna with those spider web looking things on top, turret number III in this case, or are there other things to recognize one?

The other question.....how do I take the metal shakels off (or how are these 2 things called up front and 2 at the back to which the tow cables can be attached?).........
Is there a simple trick or what?
If I turn the little nut the other end turns with it, and no way I see how to block it to get the nut off.
Sounds pretty silly....right?

I tried small pliers to block the other end of the nut, still a no go.

I'm surprised the nut refuses to come free - did you use glue or has paint jammed them in place? You could try a solvent to free them up or, maybe safer, try a small pair of side cutters or a cutting disk on a mini drill will remove the fittings without damaging anything else, but you will need to replace the loop parts.

I tried several options, nut still won't come off.
No big deal in fact, I just tie down the tow cables with some small iron cords onto the shakels.
Did do it this way from the beginning, since I have this beast.
Last night I thought, just do it the right way.......no way Jose.

Can try a cigarette lighter flame over the nut. Hold the head end with a good pair of pliers and turn the nut.
Do it quickly as the heat will dissipate fast.

The Tiger 1 Command Tank usually carried three Aerials the "Star" that you mentioned, the regular rear Quarter mounted Aerial and a Whip Aerial on the Turret, the Spare Aerial Holder on the Right Rear Flank was supplanted
by another Spare Aerial Holder which was slung obliquely across the rear panel between the air cleaner on the left when fitted/Track tool box on the left upper side of the rear panel (TOP) and the bottom of the Left sided Exhaust stack,
The layout and number of the Aerials did vary.
Turret numbers on Command Tanks usually ended with a "1" or an "0"

When I removed the Eye Bolt from the shackel I discovered that the base of the thread had been filed over so I had to pull on the eye bolt at the same time as I turned it so that the thread would engage with the shackel.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:
