plastic/metal/gears.

hi,
  can you replace the plastic gears on a heng long gearbox with metal gears,if so who makes them or is it better to just buy metal gearboxs :-\

MT 1 you can replace the plastic gears with metal ones I did that to my HL pershing and I got them from here http://www.rctank.de/

as far as I know they are all the same ratio, it is the drive sprockets that vary from tank to tank that actually make the difference in speed

yes the ratios are the same and if you buy a metal set for the tiger (shorter shaft) then you can replace the gears  with the longer shaft for the pershing/bulldog

the gear on the shaft can be carefully taken off and replaced with the metal gears ;)

I found that when I changed the gears on the drive shaft I had to glue them on with epoxy resin because they were slightly larger then the shafts, I also drill a hole though the collar on the gear and through the shaft to pin them with an M3 screw to give a belt and braces approach to stop the gear slipping if the epoxy resin failed at any time

I have found out that there are two different diameter drive shafts for the heng long gearboxs,7.99mm and 8.08mm this may account for the loose gear fit ??????

now why did they do that make a set of tanks and use to different diameter drive shafts, mind you heng long are not very consistent with their build quality as wel even though they are getting better

Post man came today with my new metal gearboxs,and guess what, left gearbox 7.99mm right gearbox 8.08mm,left drive shaft like a p---k in a shirt sleeve,and right gearbox just spot on. >:( >:( >:(
