Re: Smoothing PLA
I was chatting to someone last weekend and admiring his 3D printed tank and truck parts. He told me that although it takes many hours to print a part, he uses a 0.06mm layer height, which apparently can be done with a standard 0.4mm nozzle. The results were amazing, curved truck mudguards that were as smooth as silk.
I might give it a go next time I am printing a small detailed part.

Re: Smoothing PLA
I've been getting decent results with a .08 thickness, but I've had a print or two warp and lift off the bed. It really, really increases print time, though. Just a small item like a pershing cupola takes 6 hours, and the bed of the WC51 takes 2 days at that rate. The method in the video just might save a considerable amount of print time, so I think I'll just have to try it.
