Aldi airbrush compressor

Post by midlife306 »

Hi all, I got one of these today for £65
https://www.aldi.co.uk/workzone-airbrus ... 1211637200
It’s nice & small & comes wit an airbrush, I know it’s not the best but it’s a good starting point.

Hi Wayne, I started off with one similar to the one you bought but it wasn't powerful enough to maintain pressure. I then invested in one with an air tank, they cost about £20 more than what you paid. I hope you don't experience the same problem.

Hi Alwyn, it’s a starter for 10, I could always add a small tank if need be

They are pretty good really. The trick to maintaining air pressure is to set it at around 20psi, that way it isn't perpetually trying to re-pressurise to 60psi, which is way too high for airbrushing.

I have had two in the past ten years, and they do the job, the only thing I would do is add an additional inline moisture trap at the airbrush end, they are pretty cheap on Ebay.

Did you do any modifications to yours?

You have Aldi in Australia?
We sure do. They're really knocking the big grocery chains for six. But you have to be prepared to wean yourself off the expectations of the big stores. No bags supplied, pack yourself, no variety, brands you are not used to seeing. And the staff are grumpy and are treated poorly, with big pressure to do a lot with no help. I'd imagine its much the same business model wherever they set up.

I bought a longer hose and an Iwata brush as the Aldi brush was stuffed after a short period. The seals are crap, and the mechanisms are poor. BUT! it was precisely what I needed so I could learn what I needed in the Iwata range. Nothing wrong with the compressor, as long as you recognise it is really suited to 1/32 stuff like slot cars. If you want to paint 1/16 tanks, a larger capacity would be nice, but not compulsory. I just take it steady, give it breaks to cool down and empty the water trap regularly, as extended running will send water up the hose and into your paint. Hence Wibbly's advice.
