If you aren't camping there is only one place in Arromanches that is worth staying in, Karen and Adrian's 80m from the beach, secure parking.

cox.adrian@wanadoo.fr

It's b&b, lovely rooms in a converted barn, all spotless. The place is a legend and known to anyone who goes there. He even has an armoured car and a willys jeep. Brilliant guy, huge breakfasts and even has an overhead projector in the breakfast room that screens anything from his library of DVD's. He will give you directions to anything worth looking at.

Only snag is that he is so popular that he gets booked up fast, people stay there year after year. I have been there many times.

Tell him that the guy from Bristol with the biking group, that owns a place near Chateaubriant, recommended it, he may well remember me!

For anyone who has never been, you are in for a treat. Numerous museums, tanks and guns all over the place. Everything has been left as it was when the Germans left and most of it is free access, or very cheap entry. The clifftop guns are impressive, the Merville battery is superb, the US, British and German war graves will all bring tears to the eyes of the most hardened. The Pegasus Bridge cafe still run by the lady who welcomed the first British troops that led the spearhead, and France is the most friendly place on earth once you can say 'Bonjour', 'Bon Soir', 'Merci' and 'Au Revoir'.

Have fun, once I am there I absolutely hate coming back.
