I've just been checking out my 1/8 Panther for next weekends UKTC barbecue and realised that the esc cooling fans were not working. Its quite a nifty setup because the fans only run when the drive motors are turning, though they run for about 30 secs after the motors stop. There is a separate switch and a 40A relay to isolate the drive motors.
I was on the floor next to the tank with my hand on the Tx, firmly pushing the throttle sticks forward, No cooling, buggar!
Then I realised that the fans only work when the drive motors are switched on. No problem, flick the switch.
The fans came instantly to life and the tank took off like a tom cat being chased by the vet. Straight over my hand and the Tx and it bloody hurt!
There isn't a scratch on the Tx, but my hand looks as if it has been mauled by a tiger (or should that be Panther)
There are several lessons to be learned here:
1. Just occasionally it pays to think before you do something completely stupid
2. Give up AFV modelling and start a safe hobby like stamp collecting (no chance)
3. only build smaller, lighter tanks
4. Get the wife to operate the TX while I do the fiddling
But then it wouldn't be me if I didn't act stupid occasionally (ask Dandare about my fishpond)

But first put a new clause in your life insurance policy making it invalid should your death be caused by an RC tank.BigPanzer wrote:

Peter you have done it again what a star, you and your accidents they keep m smiling
The Fishpond
Are we sitting comfortably, well I shall begin.
Peter has a fishpond, with a fountain in the middle, and one day he noticed that the fountain had stopped working, so like the good fellow he is he decided to fix it, so off he todddles and reaches into the pond for the fountain, and up and away goes Peter, strange you may think but not it the water was now LIVE and Peter had made a very good organic earth lead, now the interesting thing was the fish were fine. I had a mental picture of Peter laid out along with many herons and a number of the local cats too.
So so funny Peter, can't wait to see you Saturday, P.S. Peter don't for get the recovery truck, there is scratch build comp any scale

Hi,
I've seen the results of the Boss fiddling with things when I recently had to put the vacuum cleaner back together......................
Don't mind anybody laughing at me when I do something daft. I reckon it means I'm entitled to laugh at others.
Rob - not sure it fits in the scratch built class. There are some Tamiya bits in there so should it be "heavily modified" ? But do we have a class for people who do stupid things?

He he - Tanks are dangerous Peter
Hope that your hand is in working condition. Will be difficult steering the tank with only one hand on the radio.
