Connecting a Kemo M032n amplifier ?

Post by Jay-Em »

Okay, thìs is for those with àctual knowledge of electronics, and audio amplifiers specifically:

Recently I tried to wire-in a 6 to 16v 12w Kemo M032n amp to a 2,4ghz 4th gen RX18. https://www.kemo-electronic.de/en/Light ... versal.php

I got it working with a separate battery. It runs a 15w FRS-7 speaker. Well. It’s really loud, really réally loud and throaty. Great. So far so good. However, the trouble started when I tried to splice the power-in from the RX-18 to feed the Amp. The T-90 lacks the space for an extra battery, hence the attempts to splice the power-lead.

Somehow that doesn’t work. It hisses for a bit, and then starts a loud, repeating popping noise. I feel there’s some kind of interference/feedback from the RX-18. Same thing happened when I tried to wire the Amp to a Clark TK-20. I even used Clark’s manual to make an adapter so the amp takes the signal “in” from the clark TK20. That worked great, as long as I used a separate battery.

In short : Works fine, great even, when powered from a separate battery, hissing and popping when spliced from a running battery.
Polarity is correct, wiring is correct, since it works fine with a separate battery. Volume pot works as expected, no surprises there.

Would a voltage step-up board give the right separation from the ESC electronics?

I’m at a loss. Do I need some kind of filter, or a diode setup to pull power from the running battery?
I réally need advise from someone versed in electronic components.

Hi,
you need a Audio-Isolator...

Look at the Benedini webpage:

Hmm.. looks like the ticket..

I figured it would be something like that, though was thrown-off by the popping and hissing. Normally a groundloop manifests as a loud hum or crackling óver the audio, not completely replacing it.

Thanks. I’ll be ordering that thingy.

I have bought the amplifier on AliExpress of ram 8610.
very well plays. two channels. on video. Clark plays through the amplifier. general 1 battery.

Looking at it again.. nope. Won’t work. The Benedini isolator, I mean. That needs a separate connection between the soundcard part ànd a separate esc, servo lead-style, not possible with f.i. an rx18, or a Clark, òr an IBU.

Added to that, a groundloop normally manifests as hiss, or hum óver the original sound, nòt completely replacing it by rythmic popping after a couple of seconds of hiss. Thàt sounds more like something charging and discharging in a predictable cycle. Something seems to be loading-up in the Kemo.

The Kemo uses a shared ‘minus’ for speaker and battery. It seems logic that the problem lies there somewhere. A problem -apparently- not happening to other amps, like the ones mentioned in the manual for the Clark tk. The main difference being, that they apparently have a completely separated plus and minus for the battery.

I’m shelving the Kemo amp for now, and just bought an IBU2u that already has 15w of noise-creating power on-board. Ideal!
