Hi Alwyn, before I get carried away with the glue, how much of the top will be removable?
Cheers

The whole upper hull should be removable including the track covers. I'll do a couple of photos tomorrow.

Hi Wayne, it seems I made an assumption that you were familiar with the approach on scratch tank builds of building separate upper and lower hulls as the RTR manufacturers do with their tanks. What his means is that you have ready access to the gearboxes/battery/electronics in the lower hull.

Anyhoo, here are some pics of how I did it.

Lower hull (note the rear panel)

Upper hull

note the small lip of 1.5mm styrene on the inside of the track cover which locates the upper hull on the lower hull. and particularly the small tabs on the upper hull which locate on the cross brace in the lower hull to stop the upper hull moving
and here you can see how they fit together

I just got a flash of a Tommy Cooper sketch....

Lower hull, Upper hull, upper hull, lower hull....Shazam, Just like that! Ha Ha and at no time duing the trick did my hands ever leave the end of my arms :D :haha:  - I've always been a fan of Tommy Cooper.

I apologize if this means you have some dismantling/rework to do Wayne. :wtf: :/ :'( :'(

The inner panels of the upper hull now done

Just the centre panel to fit.

Hi Alwyn

I am watching and really enjoying the build really lovely work !!!

Maybe offer a suggestion for the front glasics plate
Have u thought about doing a fan type print with multiple flat surfaces to make it look more curved ..a trick of the eye using the centre of the drivers hatch as the middle of the arc ?

That's a great suggestion but unfortunately openscad doesn't lend itself to that sort of approach. There is one approach that might work which is to use a segment of a sphere to give a more 'dome' shape around the hatch, but whilst doing the design, I reached a point where I could spend another few hours trying to finesse the design with no guarantee it would look any better, or I could spend half an hour with some milliput and a file afterwards to create the right shape. No prizes for guessing which option I plumped for!

Thanks anyway for the interest and the suggestions. :D
