ITS JUST NOT CRICKET

Post by HERMAN BIX »

In the words of the Barmy Army................

(to the tune of yellow Submarine).........

YOU GOT CAUGHT WITH YA HANDS DOWN YA PANTS, OI!, YA HANDS DOWN YA PAAAANTS,OI!, YA HANDS DOWN YA PAAAANTS (REPEAT) :shifty: :shifty: OLE STEVE SMITH IS DIRTY F..N CHEAT OI, A DIRTY F..N CHEAT OI !!!.

Aussie Cricket, another shameful event and an award winning batton change from the infamous 'Underarm' legendary winner back in the day.
If Smith was EVER to be compared to Bradman , its gone now , and how he and his so called "leadership team" can take the field is beyond me.
New Zealand may still hold the test record for the lowest ever innings score, but the Aussies ?..........
THE worst ever sportsmanship disgrace and now ball tampering with the collective input of the leadership group :wtf: :wtf:

As a rabid and nationalistic sports fan, this is an all time low.

Alistair Cook might be out of form, but he can die knowing he has never stooped as low in a game as that.

no matter what the result in this match, every result from this day forward will be in question, and that folks, is game over thank you umpires from this day forward.
The next Ashes test will be MONUMENTAL for the Barmy Army and I cant wait.
Best the Aussie Cricketers get a boat load of "support staff" along , because the hurt feelings are going to be profound.

As an avid cricket follower I am saddened and disappointed that players who I have previously considered as excellent sportsmen can let down themselves, their team, and their country by using such despicable actions as ball tampering. The game of cricket is the loser today unfortunately as it brings the whole game into disrepute. How Australia can still allow these two to continue playing in the side beggars belief, the action was obviously premeditated as why else would the 'foreign object' be in a pocket?

A very, very sad day.

:wtf: ;)
I had to chuckle at the Sky News presentation of the story. First, they mentioned 'Ball tampering'..and then followed it immediately with images of an Australian apparently reaching into his marriage tackle depository. All the clip needed was the 'Jaws' theme, and a few seconds of slo-mo.. :lolno: :haha:

I am not anti Australian, but the captain said he and the "team leadership" knew of higher plan for ball tampering. The Australian Cricket authorities just ban him for one match? Totally inadequate

Edit. It was the world cricket authority that banned him. Still inadequate. So far as I can see, the Australian Cricket authorities have done nothing.

I always wonder how sport can be so unsporting sometimes. Training at altitude to gain an advantage, for example. Then, there's the irritating phenomenon of tennis players 'grunting'..or 'shrieking' to put their opponents (and the spectators) off >:< I have noticed at Wimbledon, and elsewhere, that certain players with a decibel output equivalent to a jet fighter taking off, never feel the need the to shriek in the warm- up session before the first point is played. Thereafter, champagne glasses can be heard shattering in the Members' enclosures.. as the shrieking commences :problem:

It's how to bowl that 'curved ball', Gary..one that 'swings' in the air. Perhaps baseball pitchers roughen one side of the ball to alter the aerodynamics, and make the ball 'curve' in the air. In cricket, 'swing (fast) bowlers can do that without recourse to 'ball tampering'. Spin bowlers can make the ball loop in the air and kick right or left, or to hop forward, even, when it lands. Hopefully baffling the batter in the process.
In principle, baseball (another English invention, I believe..but called 'rounders' originally) operates on similar principles: A Batter, a Bowler, and and a prescribed area for the batter to run in in order to score.
Still baffled?
edit..that damned text checker converted 'prescribed area' to 'prescribed REAR for the batter'...now that's borderline vulgar :haha: . There must be some mischievous spirit in there..

The culture of the Australian cricket team has declined sharply since the Ponting era and my interest in the game has pretty much followed. Our national team has become a pack of thin skinned, sledging prima donnas with a win at all costs attitude that is incompatible with my personal beliefs around sport. As painful as this incident might be to local fans it will now force Cricket Australia to cut out the cancer and will hopefully be a wake up call for the survivors to pull their heads in. Steve Smith is gone for 12 months and he will likely return to the national side after that but his future in leadership roles remains to be seen. David Warner's career is effectively over and I would put my house on him never playing for Australia again. His impact on the team culture has been profound and his departure will be a positive step forward. Cameron Bancroft is out for 9 months and who knows what his future holds. The fallout in terms of lost sponsorship dollars both to the players involved and Cricket Australia is still unfolding as I type this.

What they did was cheating plain and simple and it was inexcusable but lets not pretend Australia is the only nation to ever cheat at cricket. Ball tampering has been endemic at the international level since the 1970's and probably long before the era where TV cameras made it easier to catch people. India, Pakistan, South Africa and England have all been busted in recent times and you would have to be very naive to think no one has ever gotten away with it. The level of public outcry in Australia over this incident has been extreme to say the least and a bit over the top in my opinion. It does speak volumes about the standards we have for our national sportsman though and what the average Australian feels about cheating.
