A good tank for a newbie?
I have been researching and I think I found a heng long tank I like
I was mainly looking for a reasonable price, reliable, shoots airsoft pellets tank.
I think this would be a good one. Panzer kampfwagen III, here is the link http://www.rccommand.com/PanzerKampfwagen%20III.php
I would get the Perish, but it doesn't shoot airsoft pellets.
I would use the tank just for fun, me making obstacles, targets,etc....
Also is it worth buying Super Series Version, I heard without it the tracks on the tank will break easily with the regular model.
One last question, how does the airsoft tank main gun works? Is it self generated, so I don't need to buy compress air?

Hi there,
ill try to answer your Q's
The pershing will shoot airsoft, if you buy the airsoft version, http://www.rccommand.com/Snow%20Leopard.php
you will probably want the Smoke and sound (S+S) version, as it says it has more realistic driving, better battery (from rccommand)
the normal version if your just using it for fun should just be fine, as the plastic tracks have never broken on me, if your looking for realism than metal are more realistic, but you say fun so plastic are fine, as his stock version allready has metal gearboxes, which in my opinion are a necessity,
the airsoft gun is self generated, its not compressed air unfortunatly, its spring loaded,
cheers, hope this helps, fell free to ask any other questions,

Re: A good tank for a newbie?
Thanks for the tips, but how exactly do I know if it shoots airsoft pellets. Like in the Panzerkampfwagen it say in the detail it shoots airsoft pellets, while in the m26 Perishing it only say it has main gun sound etc...
Also the tank would work on carpet, I have also heard that carpet would ruin the treads.?
So for sure this one shoots BB's? http://www.rccommand.com/PanzerKampfwagen%20III.php This also doesn't say what size BB's they shoot, does anyone know?

Re: A good tank for a newbie?
Hello idk761,
Just going to give you a suggestion for another place to look for tanks.I have yet to see any other dealer beat the price for HL tanks than what you can buy them for at " Raidentech.com ".They sell the PZ III that you mentioned with metal tracks and plastic gearbox for $109.00 dollars. They also sell that same tank with metal tracks and metal gearbox for $119.00 dollars. That is $51.00 dollars cheaper than the site you posted. That $51.00 dollars extra will almost buy you another standard S&S model tank.
Also You may get free shipping from " Raidentech.com " If you enter in the coupon box "FREESHIPPING"------I think they are still offering free shipping if you enter the code I listed in the coupon box when you order.
I have bought a lot of RC items (tanks--boats--and vehicles ) from Raidentec and have been very happy with them. All the dealers who sell tanks have to make a profit on what they sell or they wouldn't be in business very long.Raidentech is making a profit on the tanks they sell, but I think another $51.00 dollars for the same tank is a bit excessive to me.Before you order a tank I would look around a little and compaire prices. Also keep in mind the shipping cost from the dealers. Most 1/16 scale tanks are going to be well under $20.00 dollars to ship UPS across the U.S. from an honest dealer.
Consider this as a suggestion for what its worth from a fellow forum member.

P.S. this apply's for those who live in the U.S.A.

( Note ) I think I listed the free shipping code for Raidentech wrong----it should be " CJFREESHIPPING " If anyone has used this lately----Let us know if they are still allowing this code for free shipping------ Larry

You're better off going to Bill @ rccommand.com
http://www.rccommand.com/Snow%20Leopard.php
He's cheaper, has better customer service and his tanks come with the metal gearboxes and the uprated battery. My experience with similar vendors to the one you linked to has been less than favourable...

Ok, I will still continue doing some research, but my deadline is by the end of the week, since I will be going on vacation in a month, and I always allow a month for my package to come.
Just in case.
Anyone bought anything from Xenon Project it seems like a legit site, and has the snow leopard, which many online stores I have been to had these out of stocks including Raidentech.com

RCCommand are in Texas.
Re: A good tank for a newbie?
I am leading to the tank, Snow Leopard(Made by Heng Leng I think)
How long would a 1800mAh battery last, and the recharge time for this tank?

Re: A good tank for a newbie?
Charge time depends on the charger. I can rapid charge the 1700mAh packs in 45 mins or so with my inteligent chargers, but the one that comes with the tank is only a basic (ie no auto cut-off) 400mAh unit that takes a little over 5 hours according to data I've seen elsewhere. Run time should be 30 mins or so, but its a Nicd pack so you'll need to charge/discarge carefully to maintain its useful life. Upgrades like metal tracks and gearboxes, as well as the terrain make a difference to the run time also - tooling around the living room carpet places less load on the motors than fighting thru long grass, especially with the Bulldog and Pershing ('Snow Leopard' ::) ) as they tend to pull grass around their drive sprockets.
Most of us here have dumped the Nicd packs in favour of higher capacity NiMH ones. These do not suffer from the 'memory effect' and typically have twice the energy density.
I use packs and chargers from this site (they're a California based company):

Re: A good tank for a newbie?
I was originally going to get the 1800mAh battery, for the snow leopard, but knowing me I will began crying when the tank runs out of power so quickly. :-[ I think I will get a 3800mAh or 4500mAh, and perhaps a smart charger.
I haven't had a chance to hold the a rc tank, but where is the battery usually located?
Once I get the tank, to upgrade or repair it would I need to solder, hopefully not?
And also would this battery worked,http://www.all-battery.com/72v3800mahflatnimhhighpower38adrainratebatterypackswithtamiyaconnectorsforrccarsandsumorobots.aspx
and this smart charger [url]http://www.all-battery.com/smartunivers ... r.aspx[url]
I tend to spend most of my money on one thing, and never upgraded it until at least a year, so I buy all my stuff at once.
