Pics from D Day celebrations at Arromaches this year
Now that the vets are sadly dwindling in numbers, the D Day celebrations are moving towards military displays etc. I was over there this year and had some long chats with US and Brit vets, many of whom were on the beaches that day, and they had some stories to tell. Amazing stuff about what went on. The whole area is well worth a visit as the French have retained all of the German bunkers, guns etc and much of it is free to access. One set of bunkers is kitted out with full light and sound to simulate the Brits attacking.
I have been before (motorcycling trips) and have visited the US, British, and German war graves. They are all very moving experiences, the visitors centres are crammed with memorabilia, personal accounts etc. The array of information is quite staggering, we don't see any of the reality of the war in the UK. I even found Wittmans grave, with his tank crew, and out of all of the graves in there his is the only one that has been turned into a shrine with tributes from both German and British vets.
Anyway, here are a few pics of what is there, split over a few posts! They may come in useful for anyone who needs reference pics to build diorama's, battlegrounds, or models?
Cheers

We sure do, though you have one up on me. I have been past that paratrooper loads of times on the dual carriageway, but never actually pulled into the village to take a look up close!

Brilliant pictures guys. I really want to go over there soon and have a good look around. Years ago I was involved with an airoplane called Sally B and met many vets. We must never forget the sacrifices made by those people, we owe them so much.
