What to be aware of when I buy a used Armortek 1/6 Tiger 1?

Post by Marco Peter »

In my area somebody is selling a an Armortek Tiger 1... I want to visit him and take a look, but what should I be aware of? I mean, it'll cost thousands of euro's and I never owned one of these beasts before (so logistics are gonna be a problem too haha!)

He listed it as being a Mid Production, includig DMD sound, smoke, transmitter/receiver and motion pack'.

Update: Spoke to him on the phone, he built it himself app. 8 years ago. The Sound is Tamiya DMD, and with the 'same crystal as the drive unit'. He drove it outside once and around the house a couple of times and lost interest.
After stocking it the batteries are probably pretty dead. It has no recoil, but includes the blank firing unit.
1:16 was my scale. Until 'Konan' came into my life... an Armortek 1:6 Tiger 1!
... Now followed by a Panther G, 'Gunther'!

Hi be aware if you want to fit a recoil and armortek sound it will cost £672 plus Vat and shipping (vat 20%). Make sure it has the armortek motion pack this is £1220 plus VAT and shipping ,the other thing with armortek tigers is the tracks they have a habit of breaking . The armortek tiger weighs 84kg empty so add extra for batteries motion pack and other items fitted its also very big so an estate car or people carrier is needed to move it along with ramps. Take a look at armortek site forum for things to look for .

An armortek with Tamiya dmd?!

I’d probably say he’s tried to do it on the cheap - you really need two decent esc and a benedini to run a big heavy tank correctly.

Have you perchance looked at this thread on RCU, where Old MSgt builds the Armortek Tiger 1? This lucky guy has several Armortek kits  ; but the good thing is that he chooses to share his builds with us.. :haha:

Haha I guess the wallet part is a thingie. And transport...

He said he went with the Tamiya DMD because back then the Tamiya sound was better than Armorteks?

edit: Controls are Armortek

Sounds like he's just using the dmd for the sound (I guess he means DMD/mfu).

Don’t forget also these things can’t be moved around in a mini, All the stuff you don’t think about like RAMPS, CHARGERS FOR TANK BATTERIES AND RADIO, RATCHET STRAPS FOR TYING IT DOWN you don’t want it going through your windscreen when you hit the brakes, Also be aware a set of TRACKS £1000 , BATTREIES £160 each.......CHARGER UNIT £100 it all adds up.
Its not just buying the tank there’s so many other things to think about when buying one.

> armortek tigers is the tracks they have a habit of breaking

The very earliest Armortek Tigers (2003) had a couple of casting errors on the track links, which needed to be filed down to prevent them locking and breaking.

If this is a 2010 release (it should say on the inside of the lower hull plate), then it should come with the later issue of tracks, which work perfectly out of the box.

Check to see if the blank firer has been used, as the soot etc is very corrosive and can be ruinous to the insides of the tank.
