British Battle Tanks by David Fletcher

Post by 43rdRecceReg »

Just to draw attention to this worthy tome by David Fletcher, published by Osprey in 2017. It runs to over 270 pages, and is rich in photos and illustrations. For me, it's an ideal book as it deals with the development of British armour (and I stress British) from 1939 until the end of the war, and until the development of the Main Battle tank.

I really could have done with this when I was involved in my Cromwell scratch build, but it's never too late to get clued up, eh?
David was the historian at the Tank Museum (Bovington) for over 40 years, and so you can be guaranteed that he knows his stuff. This book featuring developments in WW2 two, is part of a wider series of books on British tanks, by Fletcher
and published by Osprey. I believe it's also available in the US. The recommended price on the Osprey website if £20 for the hardback version, but I got it (new) from Amazon UK for only £12. A bargain at the price..

Do check it out...as British tanks may not be represented in the 1/16 wold of model tanks, but they're certainly fully represented in print

Good afternoon,
I use the Osprey website ( got into it from the illustrious, high class magazine: Classic Military Vehicle ) and will keep an eye out for this. I will need at least one, hopefully two pieces of WWII British armor ( that are not Sherman fireflys ) in my collection before I get too old to build them.
regards,
Painless

I'm sure the Colorado air and peaceful environment ('cept when you're out shooting :haha: ), will vouchsafe you a long and illustrious modelmaking career, Painless. With that in mind, and trying to be extra positive about it, by the time you get around to including a WW2 British tank in your burgeoning collection, a 1/16 Churchill, Matilda, Comet or Cromwell might be available commercially. Available, that is, from sources other than Christian Ludwig- our solitary supplier at present. :| Mind you, his kits really are a bit special...
