I would be reluctant to fit them in any hull smaller than a Tiger1, They would probably be better suited to an Abram's, a Leo or a Challenger,
Anything with a smaller hull could be short of space for the control board and its ancillaries especially the battery.
But I very much like the direct input into the gearbox if only because it has the potential to lower its profile.
Shaun.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

I think this is where a tk24 and lipo battery would come into their own! Should be able to get everything into even a Panzer iii

You may well be right there, Shaun. I'd not reckoned with the motors obtruding so far into the space usually occupied by the MFU :problem:
Mind you, those 480 motors are longer the the typical 380s found in Tamiya and other tanks.. Maybe some means could be found to shorten the overall length of the whole package.

I agree with You. In comparison with the height, the length of the gearboxes is essential. The length affects the design feature of the planetary gears. If you set the motors speed 380/400 the length will shorten by 10 mm. In order to maintain the speed of the tank is comparable with the motors speed 480 and a ratio of 100:1, you can use planarity the gearbox in a lower gear ratio, for example 71:1 available.

If you could countersink the screws & shaft in the inboard side it'd be ideal for the narrower tanks (Churchill) etc.

Landing places of gearbox were calculated for installation instead of reducers 3: 1 and 4: 1. Such gearboxes are installed in the tanks of Taigen, Torro and Heng Long.
Tanks Panther, KV, Tiger I have and I checked compatibility. The remaining models of the King Tiger / Jagdtiger, Panzer 3/4 I can not show, because I do not have them. But gearbox should stand up without problems. Similarly to gearboxes 3: 1, 4: 1, SKAT has two types of drive shafts: a long shaft and a short shaft. I have KV Heng Long. On his example, I will show how the gearboxes are installed in the tanks of Heng Long.
