Hi guys.
I use loctite 401 on just about everything. I use it on my 3d printed stuff (PLA) and everything in between.

Re: Gluing resin parts
Good morning, 43rdR&R,
Thank you for finding the test results video. It illustrates why I have enjoyed the use of the LocTite Ultra Control Gel over the years it has been available. I have not lost a part to shear yet, plastic to plastic or plastic to brass or resin. The longer the stuff is applied, the stronger it gets. Until plastic starts breaking. With the 1/16 scale , smaller or larger parts and pieces that we use in the Hobby, the LocTite is a great choice.
regards as always,
Painless

Here's what Loctite claim it can bond..for any member keen to give a try:
"....Recommended For
Repairing figurines, costume jewelry, cameras, toys, metal car parts, wiper blades, rubber seals and O-rings
Ideal for vertical surfaces and for applications requiring flexibility
Bonding leather, cork, paper, cardboard, wood, chipboard, fabric, metal, ceramic, rubber and hard plastics such as Plexiglas™, polycarbonate, polystyrene and PVC...."
In an emergency, it can probably be used to reattach the finger tip your craft knife just sliced off

Roy, if you're going to experiment you might want to check storage recommendations. I keep my loctite 435 and 410 in the fridge, per manufacturers recommendation.
When FDR coined the phrase "The Arsenal of Democracy", he was talking about Detroit. Proud to live in the 2nd most violent city in America!!

Kind of funny Recce43rd as superglue was originally developed as a battlefield expedient for closing wounds.

Yep. Wars certainly boost creative and lateral thinking, Steve. 1939-45 saw us go from the Biplane to wire-guided missiles (Germans) and V2 rockets (them againNorton1 wrote:Kind of funny Recce43rd as superglue was originally developed as a battlefield expedient for closing wounds.

When I had my mashed-up ankle rebuilt with titanium two years ago, ordinary stitches weren't sufficient to hold the gruesome 6 inch incision in place on their own. No, they used a fair dollop of superglue too.
Had I been conscious at the time, I might have asked what brand they used

Re: Gluing resin parts
Not so many years ago open heart surgery was an advance in modern medicine that was a headline event and was certain to feature on Television News,
Scroll forward to October 2016 and I was awake watching a large television screen in full colour as two stents were placed with "Surgical" Accuracy in front of two of my Heart Valves and the only incision was a tiny nick on the inside of my wrist to allow the machine entry to the artery so it could be driven remotely up the inside of my arm and into the chest cavity by the surgeon.
I am left wondering what John Logie Baird would have thought about how his invention was being used just 90 years later.
just as the inventor of superglue would probably be surprised how very differently his idea was now being used.
One invention for the entertainment industry used in the field of medicine and one invention for the field of medicine now being used in the field of entertainment.
Shaun.

I was thankfully unconscious for the various TV shows that were filmed inside me. I do not care to see the re-runs.

Well, we...Shaun, you Dan, and I can rejoice in not having been reduced to inanimate objects of desire for modern day Burke and Hare theatre suppliersRaminator wrote:I was thankfully unconscious for the various TV shows that were filmed inside me. I do not care to see the re-runs.

We have technology and sticky stuff to thank for being able to dissect tanks, and glue them back together. Long may it continue
