Jagdpanzer iv zimmerit?
Doing some research for my Jagdpanzer IVl/70 build and I want to use zimmerit.
Says zimmerit was cancelled September 1944.
I plan to change the front bogies to late steel type wheels and add zimmerit but would this have existed?
I have photos of l70's with zimmerit but can't see the wheels or if they have late exhausts.
Thanks
Adam

Re: Jagdpanzer iv zimmerit?
Interesting as there was a very small window for zimmerit. Factory application stopped on 9 September, 1944, application in the field stopped 7 October. I believe the first L70 equipped Jagdpanzer was produced in August 1944. Also, I understand it was only the later production models were fitted with the steel wheels at the front. It would seem therefore, that it is a case of either or - if it had zimmerit it would not have had steel wheels and vice versa.

Just as I thought, buggar.
I like the late wheels and exhausts but also like the zimmerit.
I could backdate to an l/48 but would have the remove gun travel lock.
Also, the l/70 had three return rollers not four.

Decisions in this cases are very easy, Ad. Just do it as you like it. Do you like zimmerit? Then zimmerit it. Do you like the pink color? Paint it pink.
I dont care about historic accuracy.

I must be very strange because I avoid any Tank that fits into the Zimmerit time scale like the plague,
Although one could of course adopt the HWMNBN attitude and go your own way.
Why not ? There is no legal or indeed moral obligation to follow everybody else, Why not Pink,? If it is good enough for the SAS in the Desert it should be good enough for us.
Shaun.

I think I am about to upset someone

Re: Jagdpanzer iv zimmerit?
Very true.
I could do late wheels and exhausts and zimmerit.
I'll have a think.

If you need to convince yourself, think of it this way. An early model, with zimmerit, was repeatedly suffering damage to its front road wheels, so as a field modification, the crew scrounged some steel wheels and fitted them themselves!
