Possible KV-1 mod

Post by Mackem »

So both Tamiya and HL have released versions of the KV-1.
The HL version is the early 1941 model with bolt on armour and the Tamiya is a slightly later version with welded armour. Neither of these vehicles were particularly effective or reliable and were destroyed or abandoned in large numbers.

There is hope though, with the turret from a WSN T34-85 and a bit of work, it should be possible to create the KV-IS. This would give us a tank that was a match for the German Tigers & Panthers and was the prequel to the excellent IS/JS tank series. ( Hope some of the aftermarket lads are reading this ).

Here's a pic.
Cheers

Nice one John. Look's like a cool modification and better looking than a standard KV1 in my humble opinion. All the best for now

I thought that the KV85 turret was a different shape to the T34/85

Hi John, that turret looks exactly like the one on the WSN T34 to me. Mmmmmm possibilities......

Hi Rivet, You're right it is slightly different, but I did say a little work would be needed.  ;) ;D

I did look at grafting the t34's hull MG 'blister' onto the turret side, but that wouldn't quite cut it - the turret rear is not flat on the KV85 :(
Maybe a bit of sculpting with Miliput might do the trick?

Hi Mart, yep, there is a slight slope. Some milliput and a dremmel will sort that out though.  ;)
Here's a pic of the beasty in combat showing the turret rear.
